Storm Stumbles at HSU

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Southeastern was unable to overcome a cold shooting night as the Savage Storm hit 30.6 percent from the floor on the night in a 64-38 loss at Henderson State on Thursday night in Arkadelphia, Ark.

The Storm slip to 13-12 overall on the season and 11-10 in Great American Conference play heading into the regular-season finale on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. against Ouachita Baptist.

"Twelve turnovers in the first half," said head coach Darin Grover, "And you're not going to win games scoring 38 points.  We were trying to get the ball inside, but they weren't allowing us to throw it inside or throw it around.  It's frustrating."

Briley Moon and Katie Branam led the offense with 11 points apiece, while Alix Robinson added eight.

Moon was just shy of a double-double with nine rebounds to lead the way, while Neely Noel, Tracy Johnson, Robinson, and Branam each pulled down four.

The Storm offense struggled in the first half, hitting 30.4 percent from the field and 20.0 percent from long range.

The Reddies scored the first eight points of the game and would lead by as many as 13 points in the first quarter, but a Neely Noel jumper as time expired cut the gap to 17-7 after one quarter.

SE would cl lose to 22-14 midway through the second quarter, but a 10-0 run by HSU would leave the Storm down 18 before a Moon jumper beat the halftime buzzer to make it 32-16 at the break.

Moon and Branam combined on six-straight points early in the third quarter to trim the deficit back to 13 points at 35-22 three and a half minutes into the half.

HSU would answer with back-to-back threes and the teams would trade buckets before finishing the third quarter with the Storm trailing 48-30.

SE opened the fourth with back-to-back threes from Moon and Robinson to close to within 12 points at 48-36, but the Storm offense would struggle over the final eight minutes as HSU would score 16 of the last 18 points to fashion the 64-38 final score.
