SE Downs Rival ECU in Midweek Matchup

ADA, Okla. – Southeastern took advantage of 14 free passes and scored four runs in the ninth inning to pull away with a 9-1 victory over East Central in a non-conference road matchup in Ada, Oka., on Tuesday afternoon.
 
The win moves the Savage Storm back to 9-9 overall on the season heading back into Great American Conference play March 8-9 in a three-game series versus Harding at The Ballpark in Durant.
 
Austin Ferguson and Luke Thomas had two hits each, while Joseph Cerda picked up the teams fifth hit.
 
Slayde Ortiz, Drew Bolin, and Thomas each recorded two RBI, while Cerda, Hunter Capps, and Caleb Dubler drove in one each.
 
Jacob Bigham got the start and picked up his first win of the season after tossing 3.2 innings and allowing just one hit while striking out four.
 
Beau Swimmer tossed 2.1 innings in relief and also struck out four while allowing one hit.
 
Jordan Compton tossed an inning and faced the minimum, striking out one, followed by an inning by Kenneth Klier who struck out two but allowed a hit.
 
Logan Teske tossed the final inning and was tagged for an unearned run on two hits with one K.
 
SE took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, taking advantage of a walk, two errors and a hit by pitch drawn by Ortiz to bring home the first run, followed by a sac fly from Bolin.
 
SE got back on the board in the sixth, first after drawing four-straight walks, followed by another Bolin sac fly and a Thomas RBI single to go ahead 5-0.
 
A Thomas single in the top of the ninth would plate Bolin and stretch the lead to 6-0, followed by Capps reaching on an error and driving in Thomas for a 7-0 lead.
 
Dubler followed a batter later with a sac fly and two batters after that Cerda would single home Capps to push the lead to 9-0.
 
ECU would take advantage of a pair of Storm errors and tack on a run in the bottom of the ninth to make the final 9-1.
