ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Despite rallying from 15 down in the second half to get within one point in the fourth quarter, No. 16/19 Southeastern was unable to complete the comeback at Henderson State, falling 77-72 on Saturday afternoon in Arkadelphia, Ark.
Â
The loss snaps an eight-game winning streak by the Savage Storm and drops them to 13-3 overall on the season and 10-2 in Great American Conference play.
Â
Katie Webb turned in a season-high 31 points in the effort, reaching the 30-point mark for the second time this season, and rounded out the contest with a double-double by hauling in 11 rebounds. Webb finished 13-of-26 from the floor.
Â
Kamryn Cantwell put up 18 points on the strength of a 12-for-12 effort from the free throw line.
Â
The Storm had their second-lowest shooting performance overall and its worst shooting effort from three-point range of the season, hitting 2-of-14 from long range.
Â
Cantwell posted a team-high four assists, accounting for half of the team's season-low eight dimes.
HSU scored first but a Webb three and a Cantwell layup would make up a 5-0 run to take the lead for the Storm.
Â
The teams traded blows and after the Storm closed the gap to 12-11 on a pair of Cantwell free throws, the Reddies would edge ahead and eventually take a 21-16 lead after one quarter.
Â
SE would twice cut the deficit to three points early in the second quarter, but a 13-4 run by HSU would give the hosts a 38-26 lead before a pair of Jorden Benson free throws would close the gap to 38-28 at halftime.
Â
The Storm deficit grew to 15 points by the midway point of the third quarter, but a Cantwell three-point-play would trigger a 7-0 run to cut the gap to single digits.
Â
HSU would twice push their lead back to 11 points before a Benson three beat the buzzer to close the third quarter with SE trailing 55-47.
Â
The Reddies would go back up by 11 by the 6:26 mark of the final quarter, but the Storm found its rhythm with a 12-2 run to cut the score to 67-66 with 2:11 to play.
Â
That was as close as they would get as the rally was never able to get over the hump, closing the deficit back to 74-72 with 15 seconds to play but were unable to tie the game again, falling 77-72.
