Webb Buzzer Beater Lifts SE to Win

DURANT, Okla. – Katie Webb connected on a put back with 0.3 seconds to play to lift Southeastern to a 63-60 victory over Southern Nazarene on Saturday afternoon in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

The win lifts the Savage Storm to 15-5 overall on the season and 12-4 in Great American Conference play while helping them hang onto a share of the league lead.

With the game tied at 60-60 and time ticking down under five seconds a Tracy Johnson three would careen long where Webb would control the board and get the put back, drawing a foul in the process.

After a review the shot would count and Webb stepped to the free throw line, hitting her and-one opportunity.

After a timeout allowed SNU to advance the ball, the Crimson Storm was unable to get a shot off with three-tenths on the clock, preserving the 63-60 SE win.

"I thought toward the end we were scrapping," said head coach Darin Grover, "And trying everything that we could to stop their inside game. Our kids were resilient. Haiden Williams hits the three that kind of gave us some life and some belief that we were going to win the game. Then we get a great look at the three for the final shot and what do you say about Katie Webb. Once again Superwoman comes out of nowhere and comes up with it."

Webb finished as the game's high scorer with 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting and completed the double-double with a game-best 10 rebounds.

Kamryn Cantwell added 17 points in the effort on 4-of-7 shooting with an 8-of-8 performance at the free throw line.

Haiden Williams just missed double-figures off the bench with nine on a trio of threes.

Cantwell finished with five assists as well, while the Storm shot 50.0 from the field, including a 54.2 percent effort over the second half.

Katie Webb put up 12 points in the first half on 5-of-5 shooting from the floor, while as a team SE hit 45.0 percent in the first half and was just 2-of-7 from three-point range.

After the Crimson Storm scored the first four points of the game, SE answered with a 6-0 run to take an early 6-3 lead.

The Storm would lead 8-6 before SNU scored five-straight to take the lead and would eventually hold an 18-14 lead at end of one quarter.

The teams traded bucket to open the second quarter and SE closed the gap to one point before a 6-0 Crimson Storm run pushed the deficit to 25-18 with 7:21 to go in the second.

SE answered with a 7-1 run capped by a Haiden Williams three to close the gap to 26-25, but SNU would end up taking a 33-28 lead at the half.

A 7-2 run to start the second half would tie the game at 35-35 three minutes into the third quarter.

The Storm would tie the game twice more, the last time at 42-42 before SNU scored the final eight points of the third quarter to lead 50-42 after 30 minutes.

SE opened with the first six points of the fourth quarter to close the gap, but would have to wait until the 3:04 mark when Williams drained a three to take its first lead at 56-55.

The Crimson Storm answered with a three with 2:02 to play to, but a pair of Cantwell free throws at the 1:47 mark would knot the game at 58-58.

SNU would get a pair of free throws with 53 seconds to go to take a two-point lead, but Cantwell had the answer with a layup with 45 second to play.

The Crimson Storm would miss a jumper with 24 seconds left and Briley Moon collected the rebound with the game still tied at 60-60 setting up Webb's last second heroics.
