Baseball Splits Saturday Twinbill at HU

SEARCY, Ark. – Southeastern opened Saturday with a 5-4 extra-inning victory over Harding, but the celebration was short-lived as it would fall in the finale by a 3-1 margin in Searcy, Ark.
 
The split moves the Savage Storm to 11-11 overall and 4-8 in Great American Conference play.
 
In game one Anthony Cassos collected three hits to pace the Storm offense, while Richard Ware added a pair of hits.
 
Slayde Ortiz drive in a pair of runs, while Ware and Cassos had an RBI each.
 
Logan Teske got the start and tossed 7.0 innings allowing three runs on six hits with two strikeouts in a no decision.
 
Jason Porter allowed a run on two hits in an inning of work before Tyler McGrew came on to finish the game with three scoreless and hitless innings with four strikeouts to pick up the win.
 
Cassos put the Storm on the board with an RBI double in the top of the first and Ortiz followed with a two-run single to stretch the lead to 3-0.
 
HU would answer with a run in the third and another in the fourth to close the gap to 3-2.
 
Ware would provide a response of hit own with a solo homer in the fifth to take a 4-2 lead.
 
A pair of Bisons homers, one in the sixth and another in the ninth would force extra innings tied at 4-4.
 
The difference came in the top of the 11th when Cassos would come home on a wild pitch to take a 5-4 lead which would hold as the final.
 
In the finale Ortiz picked up two of the team's three hits while Chris Eusay picked up the third.
 
Cassos would drive in the team's lone run.
 
Davis Jenks got the start and took the loss after tossing 3.0 innings and allowing three runs on three hits with one strikeout.
 
KC Bryan would come on to toss the final 3.0 innings and allowed no runs on one hit while striking out four.
 
A Cassos sac fly put the Storm on the board in the top of the first, but HU would answer with a run in the bottom half to tie the game at 1-1.
 
The Bisons would tack on two more in the fourth and that would be all the scoring for the contest as the Storm fell 3-1.
