DURANT, Okla. –
Adam Dworsky posted 21 points and moved into a tie for the career assists lead in the Great American Conference, but was unable to push Southeastern past Oklahoma Baptist in an 82-70 loss on Saturday afternoon in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
Â
The loss drops the Savage Storm to 2-4 overall and in GAC Western Division play heading into a rematch with rival East Central at 7:30 p.m. on Monday night in Ada, Okla.
Â
"They were much more physical than we were," said head coach
Kelly Green. "They whipped us in the paint. I think it was 36-12 or something like that in paint points. We'd get the ball inside and we couldn't get it on the backboard or the rim. They got the ball inside and they got it in the basket. That was it in a nutshell."
Â
Dworsky came into the contest with 584 career assists, trailing the conference record of 590 held by Southern Nazarene's Micah Speight, and dished out six on the night to finish tied at 590 heading into Monday night's contest.
Â
He also turned in his second 20-point performance of the season, shooting 7-of-13 on the evening, including a 5-of-8 effort form three-point range to finish with 21 points to lead all scorers.
Â
Bobby Johnson joined him in double-figures with 14 thanks to a trio of threes while freshman
Jaedaun Slack turned in his first double-digit scoring outing with 10.
Â
Vadim Clanet and
RJ Weeks each just missed double-figures with eight apiece.
Â
Dworsky's six assists led the Storm, while Clanet hauled in seven rebounds and Slack pulled down six.
Â
After the teams traded threes to open the game, OBU would use a 12-5 run to push its early lead out to seven points.
Â
SE would chip away and close the gap to 16-14 on a Clanet three with 12:22 to go in the half.
Â
The Bison answered with eight-straight to take a double-digit lead, but the Storm again answered, twice cutting the gap to four points, the last of those on an
Alan Kikwaki layup with 47 seconds remaining before OBU would score the final three points and take a 35-28 lead into the half.
Â
The Storm was able to make little headway early in the second half as OBU pushed its lead out to as many as 22 points by the 11:28 mark of the half.
Â
Sooutheastern then picked up the pace and reeled off a 15-4 run capped by a Slack three to close the gap to 62-51 with 8:11 to play.
Â
The Storm rally would slow, however, with SE eventually pushing the gap to single digits at 66-57 with 4:38 to play, but the rally would run out of steam.
Â
Southeastern would cut the gap to nine once more with 1:03 to play, but would eventually fall by the final score of 82-70. Â
