SHAWNEE, Okla. – Southeastern got 32 points off the bench, led by 12 points from
Lauren Beason, but it was not enough to lift the Savage Storm past Oklahoma Baptist in a 66-51 loss on Saturday afternoon in Shawnee, Okla.
Â
The loss drops SE to 3-6 overall on the year and 1-2 in Great American Conference play.
Â
Beason finished the contest hitting 5-of-9 overall with a pair of threes to post 12 points, while
Haiden Williams hit double-figures for the first time this season with 10 on 4-of-7 shooting.
Â
Briley Moon and
Kentoya Woods each added eight points, while
Kamryn Cantwell finished with six.
Â
Cantwell dished out a team-best four assists, while Moon and Woods led the Storm on the boards with five rebounds apiece.
Â
Chandler Kemp would give the Storm an early 4-2 lead, but the Bison would answer with an 8-0 run to take a 10-4 lead by the 4:53 mark of the first quarter.
Â
Moon would connect on a three to stop that run, but continued to play catch up over the quarter, closing the gap to 16-14 on a Beason jumper with 2:01 to play, but would see the Bison score the final six points of the first quarter and trail 22-14 at the first break.
Â
The OBU lead would hit 11 points early in the second, but SE would trim it back to six points on a Woods jumper with 4:00 to play in the half.
Â
Unfortunately, the Bison would pull out to a 35-23 lead at the half.
Â
That deficit would grow to 17 points by the 5:57 mark of the third quarter, but a pair of Cantwell free throws would chip away and SE would close the gap to 49-36 after a pair of Woods freebies.
Â
That was as close as the Storm would get in the quarter, trailing 52-39 heading to the fourth.
Â
SE opened the fourth by closing the gap to single digits after buckets from Woods and Williams, closing to 52-43 at the 8:42 mark.
Â
But the Bison again answered, pushing their lead to 13 points on back-back possessions before the Storm again chipped away at the deficit, closing to nine points once again on a pair of Moon free throws.
Â
That was as close as they would get however, as OBU would end the SE run and pull away to a 66-51 final score.
