Moon, Cantwell Hit Career Milestones in Loss

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Briley Moon and Kamryn Cantwell both reached the 1,000-point plateau during the first quarter on Thursday night, with the pair ultimately combining for 40 points as Southeastern's upset bid fell short at No. 22 Southwestern Oklahoma State, 72-66, in Weatherford, Okla.

The loss drops the Savage Storm to 2-5 overall on the season and 0-1 in Great American Conference play heading into a Saturday afternoon home matchup against Southern Nazarene at 1 p.m. on Dec. 4 in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

"Missed layups and missed open jumpers, that killed us," said head coach Darin Grover, "Then we had defensive lapses. You can say it's good to go and be close, but none of that matters, its' still a loss. We didn't play particularly well. I thought we did a decent job defensively keeping them away from the basket, especially on Tramble, but then they got loose balls and things that we need to come up with."

"Both of them as freshen came in to play," said Grover of Cantwell and Moon, "And that's not easy to do. It's not easy to walk in and play as a freshman. Both of them did and excelled their freshman year and you have to do that in order to put up 1,000 points, and they've still got more time left. Briley I've been on record many, many times as saying she's the best pure shooter I've ever coached. Kam can shoot the three and take it to the basket. Bothe of them are joy to coach every single day because they come in ready to work."

Moon would connect on a three two minutes into the contest, becoming the 14th plyer in SE history to reach 1,000 points, and was joined approximately seven minutes later by Cantwell as she connected on a three to become the 15th player to reach the 1,000-point mark.

Cantwell would go on to lead all scorers with 27 points, hitting a trio of threes, while also handing out a team-best three assists.

Moon would finish the night with 13 points, also connecting on a trio of threes, and would complete a double-double with a game-high 10 rebounds.

Lauren Beason hit a pair of threes and finished with nine points off the bench while Caitlyn Kobiske turned in nine points and nine rebounds.

Cantwell scored the first four points of the contest and the Storm would maintain a lead until the Bulldogs took a 7-6 lead at the 5:46 mark of the quarter.

The SWOSU lead in the first frame would stretch to eight points before the Storm put together a late run and closed the gap to 20-15 at the quarter break.

A Kobiske bucket at the 7:36 mark would close the gap to 20-19 early in the second quarter, but the Storm would ultimately be unable to take a lead despite keeping the contest close, settling on a 33-30 score at the half.

The deficit would reach nine points in the third quarter for SE, but a 14-7 run over the latter half of the third quarter would see the Storm tie the game at 47-47 before SWOSU would connect and take a 49-47 lead to the fourth quarter.

SE would tie the game out of the break but the Bulldogs would answer, but Cantwell would come back with a three to give the Storm its first lead since the first quarter at 52-51.

Southeastern would go on to lead by as many as four points after a Moon three with 4:52 to play, but SWOSU would answer with a 17-7 run over the final four and a half minutes to fashion the final of 7266.
