SE Drops Regular Season Finale at SNU

BETHANY, Okla. – Southeastern had its coldest shooting performance of the season on Saturday, suffering a 55-41 loss in the regular season finale at Southern Nazarene in Bethany, Okla.

The loss drops the Savage Storm to 7-10 on the year and for the first time this season they drop three-straight games.

SE will enter the conference tournament as the No. 4 seed and will be back in action Monday, March 1 at 7:30 p.m. when they face Southwestern Oklahoma State in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

"We got a few open looks early," said head coach Kelly Green, "And we couldn't make a shot and then it just snowballed on us. We couldn't get to the basket. Everything we were doing they were walling us off around the perimeter. It was just a game that set the game of basketball back a few hundred years."

Bobby Johnson led the Storm with 11 points on the strength of a trio of threes, and was the only SE player in double-figures as Adam Dworsky was next in line with eight.

Dworsky did manage to dish out five assists, but SE found made buckets difficult to come by, finishing the contest Shooting 25.9 percent overall from the field and hitting 5-of-37 from beyond the arc.

Vadim Clanet pulled down a team-high eight rebounds, while Kellen Manek was next up with six.

SE got on the board first with an RJ Weeks layup, but SNU would answer with the next six points and the Storm would go scoreless for nearly four minutes before a Johnson three closed the gap to 6-5 with 15:18 to play in the first half.

The teams would trade buckets, but after falling behind by as many as six points over another near five minute scoreless streak, another Johnson three would cut the deficit to 13-10 with 8:16 to go in the half.

The Crimson Storm would stretch its lead to as many as 10 points, but a third Johnson three with 2:12 to play in the first half would close the gap to 22-15 which would hold on to be the score at the half.

A Manek three would open second half play, closing the gap to 22-18, 22 seconds in.

Over the next three minutes the teams would trade buckets, but SNU would score the next eight points to go ahead 32-20 with 13:54 to play.

A Vadim Clanet layup followed by a Dworsky layup at the 12:07 mark to cut the deficit back to single digits at 33-24.

A SNU three would answer however and after an 11-3 run by the Crimson Storm SE faced its largest deficit of the half at 44-25 with 6:35 remaining.

Back-to-back buckets from Manek and Johnson would cut into the deficit, with the Storm eventually closing all the way to 49-39 on a Jaedaun Slack three with 55 seconds remaining, but that was as close as they would get as SNU would hold off a late rally and hand SE a 55-41 loss.

The 41 point outing is the lowest by a team coached by Green at Southeastern, and is the lowest outing by the Storm since a 41-point night on Nov. 30, 2010 against Midwestern State.
