Southeastern Tripped up by Late OBU Surge

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Bobby Johnson turned in 22 points to lead all scorers, but it was not enough o offset a late game cold spell in a 70-57 road loss at Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday afternoon in Shawnee, Okla.
 
The loss the Savage Storm to 4-7 on the year in Great American Conference Western Division play as the team will now come home to prep for rival East Central on Monday night at 7:30 p.m. in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
 
Johnson was 8-of-15 from the floor overall and 6-of-11 from long range to finish with 22.
 
He was joined in double figures by Kellen Manek who dropped 12 with a pair of threes as well as Vadim Clanet who has 11 on the strength of three threes.
 
Adam Dworsky just missed double digits with eight points, but handed out a team-high five assists.
 
Johnson also led the team on the boards with six rebounds, while Clanet, Dworsky, and Jaedaun Slack each collected five.
 
OBU jumped out two a 10-0 lead over the first two minutes of the game, drawing a time out by head coach Kelly Green.
 
The stoppage served its purpose as SE answered with a 16-2 run that was bookended by Johnson buckets to take a 16-12 lead with 10:34 to play in the first half.
 
The Bison would answer and regain a four-point lead, but another Storm 8-0 run would reverse that fortune and put SE up 24-29 with 5:06 remaining in the first.
 
OBU would again retake the lead, this time going up 28-26 with under a minute to play, but it was the Storm who would get the last word as Manek would block an OBU shot with under five seconds to play and outlet to Johnson who went the distance for a game-tying layup as time expired, sending the game to the half knotted at 28-28.
 
SE would maintain an early lead in the second half as the teams traded buckets.
 
A pair of Adam Nance free throws would stake the Storm to a 35-33 edge with 17:41 to play, but OBU would score the next eight points to take a 41-35 lead.
 
Southeastern would close the gap and tie the game at 41-41 on a Manek three, but the Bison would again respond with an 8-0 run.
 
The Storm would chip away again, closing the gap to 51-50 with 8:29 to play, however OBU would score 19 of the next 21 points to go up by as many as 18 points before the Storm scored the final five points of the game to make the final score 70-57.
