DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern got late-inning heroics in both ends of its Friday doubleheader against Oklahoma Baptist to come away with a sweep of the day with a 7-3 win in game one before picking up a 3-2 walk-off win in the finale at the Southeastern Softball Field.
Â
The wins give the Savage Storm a series victory over the Bison, avenging a 5-3 loss in game one on Thursday, and lifting SE to 23-4 overall on the season and 13-3 in Great American Conference play.
Â
The series finale carried all the drama of a classic rubber-match over the final three innings.
Â
Southeastern would break a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double to score
Gracie Ore for a 1-0 lead.
Â
It would not last long as the Bison would get a two-run single to take a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth.
Â
In the bottom of the sixth, Monahwee would collect an infield single, steal second and come home on a
Kamarie Wallace RBI double to tie the game at 2-2.
Â
The score would remain tied heading to the bottom of the seventh, and
Bailey Beard would collect a one-out single and would go first-to-third on a Fryrear single. That would set the stage for a pinch-hitting
Augusta Duty to lay down a squeeze bunt to score Beard for the walk-off 3-2 victory.
Â
Cheyenne Mahy,
Kyia Monahwee, and Beard each posted two-hit outings, with Fryrear, Wallace, and Ore adding one apiece.
Â
Duty, Wallace, and Beard each had an RBI.
Â
Amberlyn Walsworth got the start and went the distance to collect the win, allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits with three strikeouts.
Â
In game one, Mahy picked up the win in a complete-game effort, tossing 7.0 innings and allowing three runs on six hits with four strikeouts.
Â
At the plate, Fryrear, Duty,
Karissa Marshall, Monahwee,
Peyton Streetman, and
Jaleigh Durst each collected one hit.
Â
Durst made the most of her one with three RBI, while Monahwee drove in two. Wallace and Streetman each added an RBI.
Â
After the teams played four scoreless innings, it was OBU who got on the board first with a three-run homer in the top of the fifth.
Â
SE chipped away in the bottom of the fifth as Ore drew a leadoff walked and moved around on a wild pitch and a sac bunt.
Â
Fryrear would follow with a hit-by-pitch and Marshall singled to load the bases.
Â
Monahwee and Wallace followed by each getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to close the gap to 3-2.
Â
Streetman would follow with a 12-pitch at bat, ultimately drawing a bases-loaded walk to drive in Marshall and tie the game at 3-3.
Â
A batter later the tie would be broken as Durst would double to left field and all three runners would come around to score, stretching the lead to 6-1.
Â
A Monahwee single in the bottom of the sixth inning would score Fryrear to stretch the lead to 7-3 which would hold to be the final.
