Moon Scores 24 In Storm Loss

DURANT, Okla. – Briley Moon shot 50 percent from the field and finished with 24 points while the rest of the team finished 11-of-38 from the field as Southeastern suffered a 59-53 loss to Ouachita Baptist on Saturday afternoon in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

The loss drops the Savage Storm to 10-16 overall on the season and 8-12 in Great American Conference play heading into the final two games of the season set for Feb. 24 and 26.

Moon hit 10-of-20 from the field, but connected on just one three, on her way to 24 points to lead all scorers, while also adding a game-high seven rebounds.

Kamryn Cantwell and Caitlin Kobiske each added six points, while Cantwell dished out a team-best four assists and snagged three steals.

Chandler Kemp pulled down six rebounds and handed out three assists.

OBU took an early lead, but by the 6:36 mark the Storm had knotted the game at 6-6.

The teams would tie again at the 5:27 mark on a Moon jumper, and with 46 seconds to play in the first Kentoya Woods would give SE an 11-10 lead, but the Tigers would hit a pair of free throws and SE trailed 13-12 at the first break.

Ouachita would twice extend its lead to five points in the second quarter before a Cantwell layup and a Moon three would tie the game at 19-19 with 4:54 to play in the half. However, the Tigers would hit the next two threes and eventually push their lead out to eight points before the Storm would trim that deficit back to 29-24 at the half.

OBU's advantage grew to 14 points by the 3:07 mark of the third quarter, but a Moon bucket would kick off an 8-0 run to end the third quarter with SE trailing 40-34.

The Tigers would push their lead to double-figures again early in the fourth, but a 7-0 charge capped by a Grace Alverson three would close the gap to 43-48 with 5:34 to play.

That would match the closest they would get though, falling by a final score of 59-53.
