Rice Homers Power SE to Sweep of Rangers

DURANT, Okla. – Reid Rice homered four times, twice in each game, as Southeastern polished off a series sweep of Northwestern Oklahoma State with wins of 11-1 and 7-3 on Sunday afternoon at Mike Metheny Field.
 
The win improves the Savage Storm record to 19-4 overall and 0-2 in Great American Conference play and stretching the current winning streak to eight games.
 
In the opener, Seth Morrow, Rice, and Angel Ochoa each logged three hits, while Brett Gonzalez added two hits.
 
Richard Ware and Cameron French each added a hit.
 
Rice would homer twice and drive in five runs, while Ochoa doubled three times and added an RBI.
 
Gonzalez added two RBI, while Morrow, Ochoa, and French each drove in one.
 
Connor Priest got the start and improved to 4-0 on the season after tossing seven innings and allowing a run on eight hits with five strikeouts.
 
Jacob Potter would make his first relief appearance of the season and toss one inning, allowing no runs on one hit with two strikeouts.
 
Rice put the Storm on the board with a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning, with Gonzalez adding an RBI single to push the lead to 3-0.
 
The lead would hold up until the third inning as an Ochoa double would add to it, followed by a Gonzalez RBI single to make the lead 5-0.
 
Morrow got in the swing in the fourth with an RBI single of his own to stretch the lead to 6-0.
 
French then chipped in an RBI double to move the lead to 7-0 in the bottom of the fifth.
 
NWOSU would get a run on the board in the top of the seventh, but SE would answer when Ochoa scored on a hang-up play to take an 8-1 lead.
 
Rice would bring the game to an early end in the bottom of the eighth inning with a three-run homer, his second of the game, pushing the lead to 11-1 and triggering the run-rule.
 
IN the nightcap, Rice and Ochoa would each add two more hits, with Rice collecting two more home runs, while Ochoa added another double.
 
Matt Miles and Ware would each add a hit.
 
Rice finished with four more RBI in game two, with his second-straight two-homer game, while Ware and French each added an RBI.
 
Cole Canuteson got the start and picked up his third win of the year after tossing four innings and allowing a run on four hits with eight strikeouts.
 
Jordan Compton would toss 1.2 innings in relief and allow a run on two hits before Jackson Sioson finished the game, tossing 1.1 innings and allowing a run on four hits with two strikeouts.
 
Rice again put the Storm on the board first with a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning.
 
NWOSU would answer in the top of the second with a run, closing the SE led to 2-1.
 
That did not last long though as Ware added an RBI single and Rice homered in his second-straight at bat, scoring a pair, and pushing the lead to 5-1.
 
Miles would come in to score on an error in the fifth and French would add a bases-loaded walk to stretch the lead to 7-1 after five innings.
 
NWOSU would pick up a run in the sixth and another in the seventh to make the final score 7-3.
