Storm Face Top-Seed SWOSU in GAC Tourney Opener

DURANT, Okla. – After picking up a pair of must-win games to close out the regular season and earn a berth in the Great American Conference Tournament, Southeastern will now head to FireLake Arena in Shawnee, Okla., looking to knock off top-seeded Southwestern Oklahoma State on March 3 at 8 p.m.
 
The Savage Storm enter the postseason with a 12-16 record and a 10-12 mark in GAC play, but are coming off a pair of double-digit victories in must-win games to end the season.
 
SE won the GAC championship in 2020 and reached the finals just last season.
 
It is only the second time the Storm have entered the tournament at the No. 8 seed, but that does not necessarily bode poorly for SE who came in as the seeded eighth in the inaugural GAC tournament and knocked off top-seeded Arkansas Tech, 82-72, back in 2012.
 
In the regular season finale, Kamryn Cantwell put up 26 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals in the win while Briley Moon added 17 points with three rebounds and two steals.
 
Cantwell has average 15.1 ppg overall on the year while grabbing 4.8 rebounds and dishing out a team-high 3.2 assists per outing.
 
Moon is next in line with 13.9 ppg while leading the team in rebounds with 6.2 per game and hitting 41.2 percent from beyond the arc.
 
Chandler Kemp has come on strong at the end of the season, lifting her average to 7.5 ppg while pulling in 3.2 rebounds and handing out 2.1 assists per outing.
 
SWOSU enters the tournament with a 26-4 record overall and a 20-2 mark in league play and winners of 11-straight.
 
The Bulldogs are led by Makayra Tramble who is putting up 19.8 ppg and handing out 5.4 assists per contest.
 
Bethany Franks leads the team in rebounding with 7.3 rpg.
 
SWOSU is averaging 81.9 ppg on the year, but the Storm, despite losing both matchups, were able to hold them to 10 or more points below their average.
