Savage Storm Drop Midweek Matchup at OBU

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Blake McQuain and Reid Rice homered but it was not enough to lift the Southeastern offense as the team dropped a non-conference road matchup with Oklahoma Baptist 16-6 on Tuesday afternoon in Shawnee, Okla.

The loss drops the Savage Storm to 26-13 on the season heading into a weekend home series with Ouachita Baptist April 15-16 at Mike Metheny Field.

Matt Miles and Cameron French each posted a pair of hits, while Rice and McQuain each homered for a hit with Damon Burroughs and Dylan Herd adding one hit apiece.

Rice accounted for two RBI, while French, McQuain, and Burroughs added one each.

Logan Teske got the start and took the loss after allowing six runs on four hits with three strikeouts in 1.1 innings of work.

He was followed by Jordan Compton, Jacob Davenport, Cody White, Joseph Bishop, and KC Bryan over the next 4.2 innings, with Bishop going the longest at 1,2 innings while Bryan was the only one to not allow a run. The reliever combined to allow 10 runs on 10 hits with six strikeouts and four walks.

SE took the lead in the first when Rice scored on a wild pitch and added to it with McQuain's solo homer in the second inning.

That was where the momentum ended though as OBU would put up eight runs in the bottom of the second to take an 8-2 lead.

Fenech would drive in Miles in the third to cut into the deficit, but the Bison added three runs in the third and two more in the fourth to take a 13-3 lead.

Rice would connect on a two-run homer in the top of the fifth and Burroughs would follow with an RBI single to close the gap to 13-6.

Unfortunately, OBU would add three more runs in the sixth to trigger the run rule at 16-6.
