Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Moon, Kobiske Score 20 Each in SE Loss

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Briley Moon and Caitlin Kobiske each put up 20 points but it was not enough to offset 21 threes made by Southern Arkansas as the Savage Storm fell 74-59 on Saturday afternoon on the backend of its road swing in Magnolia, Ark.

The loss drops SE to 4-9 overall on the year and 2-6 in Great American Conference play.

Moon collected a huge double-double with 21 points and a career-high 16 rebounds to lead all players on the boards. Moon went 6-of-19 overall and 5-of-9 from three point range, and chipped in three steals and a blocked shot.

Kobiske led all scorers with 24 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field and a 10-of-12 effort at the free throw line. She would also pull down seven rebounds and add a team-best three assists.

Southeastern opened the game shooting 40 percent from the field in the first quarter, but finished the half with a 28.0 percent clip, hitting just one three and would find itself playing from behind over the second 20 minutes.

The game got off to a slow start and the Storm held a lead with four minutes to go and the game was tied at 7-7 with 3:09 remaining in the opening frame.

SAU would reel off an 9-1 run to lead by eight with 1:22 to play in the quarter, but the Storm would score the final seven points of the period to close the gap to 16-15.

SE would take an early lead in the second quarter on a Kobiske bucket, but a 14-2 Mulerider run would leave the Storm in a double-digit deficit by the midway point of the quarter.

The Storm would trim the gap to 10 points before SAU would use a late push to take a 39-23 lead at the break.

The Muleriders would extend their lead to as many as 22 points early in the third quarter, but Southeastern would start chipping at the gap over the final five minutes, narrowing the gap to 14 points before ultimately heading to the fourth quarter trailing 57-42.

SE continued that push, twice closing the gap to 11 points, but SAU answered with a three each time and the Storm rally slowed as the home team would hold on for the 74-59 win.
