EDMOND, Okla. – A third quarter to forget would leave Southeastern in a hole it was unable to climb out of on Wednesday as the Savage Storm closed out the UCO Classic with an 86-65 loss to Texas A&M-International in Edmond, Okla.
Â
The loss drops SE to 4-2 overall on the year heading into the Thanksgiving holiday with its next scheduled action coming at home on Nov. 30 when it jumps into conference play against Southern Nazarene at 5:30 p.m. in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
Â
Ashton Hackler would lead the Storm offense with 12 points, followed by
Kenzli Warden with 11 off the bench, while
Aimee Alverson chipped in 10.
Â
Caitlin Kobiske closed the game with eight points, playing just 15 minutes, while Bri Wietelman added seven.
Â
Holli Lindley and Warden led the way with five rebounds apiece, while
Abbie Barr and
Maci Bookout grabbed four each.
Â
Barr also led the way with three assists.
Â
SE would take a lead in the first quarter, with that edge reaching as high as eight points on a Hackler bucket with 3:11 to play in the frame to make the score 15-7. The Storm would take a 20-16 lead into the second quarter.
Â
The Southeastern lead would hit eight points again early in the second but the Dustdevils would use a 12-2 run to take a lead by the midway point in the quarter, but the Storm would stay on their heels, trailing 38-36 at the half.
Â
A pair of Kobiske free throws would tie the game at the 9:18 mark, but TAMIU would close out the quarter on a 31-10 run to take a 69-48 lead after three quarters. SE would suffer from turnovers and offensive rebounds as the Dustdevils held a 9-0 edge on points off turnovers and a 6-0 advantage on second chance opportunities.
Â
Southeastern would match TAMIU point for point in the fourth quarter but was unable to erase the deficit, making the final 86-65.
