SE Women Open 2023-24 Season at Central Region Challenge

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern women's basketball is set to open the 2023-24 season at the NCAA DII Central Region Challenge in St. Joseph, Mo., first facing off with Concordia-St. Paul at 5:15 p.m. on Nov. 10 followed by a Nov. 11 matchup with Winona State at 5:15 p.m.
 
The Savage Storm come into the season picked to finish eighth in the Great American Conference.
 
Southeastern is coming off its lowest finish in head coach Darin Grover's tenure, going 7-20 overall and 5-17 in conference play to finish 12th last season.
 
The Storm women do return all-conference honoree and leading scorer Caitlin Kobiske who averaged 17.3 ppg and 6.3 rebounds per outing while shooting 50.8 percent from the field.
 
They also return four of the next five scorers behind her, with Grace Alverson, Holli Lindley, and Abbie Barr each scoring five or more points per game.
 
SE welcomes eight newcomers to the program, including a trio of transfers in Ashton Hackler and Brianna Wietelman from Northeastern State, and Carson Dean from Cowley College, as well as five new freshmen.
 
Concordia-St. Paul was tabbed seventh in the NSIC Preseason Poll after the Golden Bears finished fourth in the South Division last season with a 10-12 conference record.
 
CSP finished the season with a 14-14 record overall and returns 10 players from last season, highlighted by senior guard Ally Gietzel who was named Second Team All-NSIC last season with Academic All-District honors as well. She was the leading scorer for the Golden Bears averaging 15.4 points per game and her average minutes of 35.9 per game ranked third in the conference.
 
Winona State heads into the weekend picked to finish 12th in the NSIC this season after posting an 11-17 record overall a season ago.
 
The Warriors are led by Alex Dornfeld who was named as an NSIC Player to Watch following a 2022-23 campaign in which she averaged 28 minutes per game, putting up over 10 points per game and hauling in over eight rebounds per contest. Dornfeld's 10.6 ppg and 8.3 rpg are the top WSU returning numbers for the Warriors.
