DURANT, Okla. – Four players scored in double figures as Southeastern held off a second-half charge by Oklahoma Baptist and pulled away late for a 90-82 win on senior night Thursday evening in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
Â
The contest was the final home game of the season for the Savage Storm and the final home game ever for the team's lone senior
Al Ervin.
Â
Ervin would finish the night with four points, hitting both shots he took.
Â
It was the duo of
Kyle Leslie and
Jett Sternberger who led the scoring for SE as each player dropped a game-high 22 points, with Leslie going 8-of-15 overall and 5-of-11 from long range, while Sternberger hit 8-of-16 overall and 6-of-8 from beyond the arc.
Â
Brennen Burns followed with 16 points and nearly turned in a double-double as he handed out a game-best nine assists.
Â
Kody Clouet rounded out the double-digit scoring with 13 points on the strength of a trio of threes.
Â
RJ Weeks nearly made it five in double-digits as he went 4-of-8 from the field and finished with nine points.
Â
Leslie and Weeks each added five assists and Sternberger dished out four as Southeastern posted 25 as a team.
Â
Leslie led the way on the boards as well with six rebounds, while Clouet hauled in five.
Â
The teams traded buckets early with the Storm pushing its lead to 11-6 early on a Leslie three just over five minutes into the contest.
Â
The edge would hover between one and four points until the 9:56 mark when a pair of
Aaron Jacob free throws extended the lead to 23-17.
Â
OBU would bounce back and tie the game at 27-27, but a 15-3 run over the next four and a half minutes would give Southeastern a 42-30 lead with 1:43 to play in the half.
Â
The lead would peak at 13 points before a Bison three late would trim the Storm lead to 45-35 at halftime.
Â
SE would open the second half on a flurry, outscoring OBU 19-9 over the first 6:27 to extend its lead to a game-high 20 points on a Burns layup that made the score 64-44.
Â
OBU would respond, however, using a 25-8 run of its own to whittle the Storm advantage to 73-69 with 8:21 to play.
Â
A Sternberger three would help stem the tide, and back-to-back buckets from Burns and Clouet would see the SE lead back beyond 10 points at 80-69 with 6:06 to play.
Â
The Bison would close the gap to five points with 4:12 remaining, but that was as close as they would get as a Leslie three provided the Storm answer and Southeastern would hold on for the 90-82 victory.
