Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Storm End Season with Loss at NWOSU

ALVA, Okla.  – Caitlin Kobiske and Grace Alverson combined for 40 points but it was not enough to lift Southeastern as the Savage Storm closed out the 2022-23 season with a 77-60 loss on the road to Northwestern Oklahoma State in Alva, Okla., on Saturday afternoon.

SE finishes the season with a 7-20 record overall on the season and a 5-17 mark in Great American Conference play, missing the postseason for the first time under head coach Darin Grover.

Kobiske went 7-of-10 from the field and 8-of-10 at the free throw line to finish with 22 points and rounded out a double-double by grabbing a team-leading 10 rebounds.

Alverson was right behind with 18 points after hitting six threes.

Abbie Barr added six points, with MaKenna Walker chipping in five and Briley Moon finishing with four in the final game of her career.

Moon would finish second on the team in rebounds with seven and dish out a team-best four assists.

NWOSU would score the first five points of the game, but the Storm would answer and twice close the gap to one point in the latter half of the first quarter, the last time coming at 14-13 on a Moon bucket.

However, the Rangers would end up taking a 20-15 lead after one quarter.

NWOSU would open the second quarter on a 10-0 run before the Storm would stop it with a three from Alverson followed by a Barr bucket.

Unfortunately, SE was unable to keep its own run going as the Rangers would push the lead back out to a first-half high of 18 points before the Storm closed the gap in the final minutes, with a Kobiske bucket with 30 seconds left making the halftime deficit 41-27.

NWOSU would maintain a double-figure lead in the third, using a 16-2 run over the final 4:21 to push it to 65-39 after three quarters.

The deficit would peak at 29 points before Southeastern would chip away at the gap in the final five minutes, closing the game on a 15-3 run to make the final score 77-60.
