Storm Drops Twinbill at UT-Tyler

TYLER, Texas – Southeastern stepped out of conference to take on No. 4 Texas-Tyler on Tuesday, dropping both ends of a doubleheader, first with a 3-0 loss in the opener before finishing the day with a 5-1 loss in the nightcap in Tyler, Texas.
 
The losses drop the Savage Storm to 8-11 overall on the year heading into a conference series against Southwestern Oklahoma State set for March 3-4 in Weatherford, Okla.
 
In the opener, Reese Taylor collected a double to account for the lone Storm hit.
 
In the circle, Cheyenne Mahy got the start and tossed five innings in the loss and allowing three runs, two of them earned, on five hits.
 
Taylor would toss the final two innings without allowing a hit or a run.
 
UTT would open scoring on a sac fly in the first, adding an RBI single in the second and tacking on a run thanks to a Storm error in the fifth to fashion the 3-0 final score.
 
Game two saw the Storm jump in front first in the top of the third when Marilyn Alvarado singled home India McMurray for a 1-0 lead.
 
The Patriots would respond in the fourth with three runs before adding two more in the fifth which would set the final score at 5-1.
 
Kamryn Rackley and McMurray each collected a pair of hits, while Alvarado added one and an RBI in the effort.
 
Amberlyn Walsworth got the start and took the loss after tossing 4.1 innings and allowing five runs on five hits with six strikeouts.
 
Taylor would come on in relief and toss the final 1.2 innings and allow one hit.
