Savage Storm Splits Saturday Matchups

YOUNGSVILLE, La.  – Southeastern opened Saturday with a 2-0 victory over Delta State, but closed out the day by suffering its first loss of the season, falling 8-0 to Mississippi College at the Mardi Gras Invitational in Youngsville, La.
 
The split moves the Savage Storm to 3-1 on the season heading into the weekend finale on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. against No. 6 Texas A&M-Kingsville.
 
Gracie Ore and Iliana Olivares collected a hit each for the Storm, while Olivares and Sabetha Sands each drove in a run.
 
Cheyenne Mahy got the start and became the third-straight SE pitcher to toss a complete game, earning the victory after scattering four hits in a seven-inning shutout while striking out 10.
 
SE got on the board in the bottom of the second when Olivares singled home Marilyn Alvarado to take a 1-0 lead.
 
Sands would drive in the second run of the game on an RBI hit by pitch in the bottom of the fourth, pushing the leas to 2-0 which would hold up as the final.
 
In the nightcap, India McMurray picked up the team's lone hit.
 
Reese Taylor suffered the loss after getting the start and tossing 1.0 innings, allowing two runs on four hits.
 
Amberlyn Walsworth came on in relief and was tagged for six runs on eight hits over 2.1 innings before handing off to Janelle Marwitz who tossed two-thirds of an inning.
 
MC picked up a run in the first and another in the second, but separated in the third with a four-run third inning to take a 6-0 lead.
 
The Choctaws added two more runs in the fourth and the Storm was unable to find an answer, falling 8-0.
