SE Tops SNU To Reach GAC Final Set for Saturday Evening

BENTONVILLE, Ark. – Iliana Olivares drove in two runs and Reese Taylor tossed her second complete-game win in the tournament to lift Southeastern to a 3-1 win over Southern Nazarene in the semifinals of the Great American Conference Tournament on Saturday afternoon in Bentonville, Ark.

The win advances the Savage Storm to the finals of the GAC Tournament which are set for 5:30 p.m. on Saturday evening back in Bentonville, Ark. SE will face the winner between Harding and Southern Arkansas.

SE improves to 32-25 overall on the season and has now advanced to the finals of the GAC tournament for the sixth time, reaching the championship game in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2019, 2021, and now 2023.

Taylor picked up her 12th win of the season after allowing a run on seven hits with four strikeouts in her second complete-game victory of the tournament.

Olivares led the offense with a pair of hits and a pair of RBI, with Kady Fryrear adding two hits of her own.

Gracie Ore, Cheyenne Mahy, Alexis Massie, and Kamryn Rackley each added a hit in the contest, while Rackley drove in a run as well.

SE would leave runners in scoring position in the first, but would finally break through in the fourth inning as Massie and Olivares each singled before Rackley singled home Massie to take a 1-0 lead.

SNU would put runners in scoring position in the bottom of the fourth but Taylor would again get out of trouble by coaxing a line out and a groundout to end the inning.

In the fifth, Ore would walk and Mahy singled before Fryrear was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Twi batters later Olivares connected on a two-out, two-run single to push the lead to 3-0.

The Crimson Storm would tack on a run on a Southeastern error in the bottom half of the fifth, cutting the score to 3-1.

SNU would load the bases with two outs in the seventh to threaten one final time, but Taylor would coax a foul out with Massie hauling in the final out in foul territory at third base to preserve the 3-1 win.
