Turnovers Costly in Storm Road Loss

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Turnovers and a slow start prove costly as Southeastern drops the back end of its Arkansas road trip, falling 74-57 at Arkansas tech on Saturday afternoon in Russellville, Ark.

The loss drops the Savage Storm to 4-8 overall on the season and 0-6 in Great American Conference play.

Caitlin Kobiske led the scoring for SE with 17 points, including a pair of threes, while Holli Lindley reached double-figures as well with 10.

Bri Wietelman was just shy with nine points, while Ashton Hackler chipped in seven points off the bench.

Lindley and Wietelman each had a team-best four rebounds, while Kobiske, Aimee Alverson, Lauren Beason, and Kenzli Warden had three boards each.

The Storm finished the contest shooting 35.7 percent overall, with that number weighed down by a 26.7 percent effort in the first half while finishing the game hitting 6-of-10 in the fourth quarter.

Wietelman would score the first four points for the Storm as the teams were knotted at four over the first two minutes.

ATU would follow with a 12-2 run to take a 16-6 lead and the teams would match each other with six apiece over the final 3:39 of the frame to leave SE trailing 22-12 after one quarter.

The Golden Suns would push their lead to 14 points early in the second, but the Storm would use a 12-6 run to trim the deficit to 34-26 on a Grace Alverson jumper with 1:07 to play in the half.

However, ATU would score the final four points of the half to make the halftime tally 38-24.

The Suns would use a 9-4 run to open the second half to push their lead to 17 points, SE would try to chip away, notably with threes from Warden and Kobiske, but ultimately the quarter would end with the same deficit at 57-40.

SE opened the fourth quarter with a three from Lindley and a three-point play from Hackler to close the gap to 11 points by the 7:25 mark.

The teams would then trade a pair of threes each to keep the deficit the same till the 6:07 mark, but over the final five minutes of the game the Suns would use an 11-5 run to make the final score 74-57.
