Savage Storm Stifle NSU In Home Opener

DURANT, Okla. – Holli Lindley led a trio of double-digit scorers and Southeastern held Northeastern State to 29.3 percent shooting on its way to a 64-50 win in the home opener on Wednesday night in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

The win lifts the Savage Storm to 2-1 on the year heading into its longest road trip of the season on Nov. 16 when it squares off with No. 4 Tampa in Tampa, Fla., at 1 p.m. (CT).

Lindley flirted with a double0double, finishing with 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting, and pulling down nine rebounds.  She would also match a team-high with three assists and added a steal and a blocked shot.

Abbie Barr added 11 in the effort, hitting 4-of-8 from the field, and added seven boards.

Kaydrin Scott rounded out the double-digit scoring, coming off the bench with 10 on a 4-of-9 shooting effort.

Kenzli Warden just missed doble-digits with eight points, while Eryn Dolan added seven, and Stevie Stinchcomb chipped in six.

Connie Hughes and Akiera Hawk each added three assists, while Stinchcomb and Warden pulled down six rebounds apiece.

A Warden three-point play would get the Storm on the board first, but the teams had played to a 7-7 tie by the 5:07 mark of the first quarter.

SE would then reel off six-straight to kick off an 11-4 run over the final five minutes, capped by a Hughes layup to take an 18-11 lead at the first quarter break.

After NSU opened the scoring in the second quarter, it was a Lindley bucket that would kick off an 8-0 run capped by a Scott jumper to push the Storm edge to 2-13 by the 6:33 mark.

The Riverhawks twice closed to within eight points before a 9-1 SE run would extend the lead to 37-21 on a Lindley transition bucket before settling on a 37-25 lead at the half.

Southeastern would inch away in the third quarter, taking its largest lead of the night at 48-28 after a pair of Scott free throws with 5:15 to go in the third.

The lead remained 18 points till late in the third when NSU chipped it down to 50-36 heading to the fourth quarter.

The Riverhawks would get that gap down to 12 points by the 8:53 mark of the final frame, but that was as close as it would get.

SE would answer and extended its lead back to 17 points by the 5:47 mark on a Barr layup.

NSU would once more close the gap to 12 points, this time with 3:03 to play, but the Storm defense would not allow another point over the final three minutes, taking the contest by a score of 64-50.
