Softball Closes Out Series Sweep of Reddies

DURANT, Okla. – Emily Simmons and Amberlyn Walsworth each logged complete-game victories as Southeastern polished off a series sweep of Henderson State with wins on both ends of Sunday's doubleheader, taking game one 6-2 before winning the finale 5-1 at the Southeastern Softball Field.

The wins lift the Savage Storm to 14-13 overall on the season and 8-6 in Great American Conference play heading into a Mach 20 non-conference doubleheader versus Texas Woman's at 2 p.m. back at the Southeastern Softball Field.

Simmons got the start and tossed a complete game, allowing two runs on six hits with four strikeouts in the win.

At the plate, Sage Harlow collected a team-best two hits, while Gracie Ore, Kady Fryrear, Sabetha Sands, Sammi Dutton, and Bailey Beard each logged one hit.

Harlow would drive in a game-high three runs on a double, while Ore, Reese Taylor, and Beard would each add an RBI.

Beard opened scoring with a single off the pitcher in the bottom of the second to drive in the first run of the game, followed by an RBI single from Ore, and a three-run double by Harlow to mount a 5-0 lead after two innings.

HSU would get two back in the top of the fifth, but Taylor would drive in a run on a groundout in the bottom half of the inning to fashion the 6-2 final score.

It was Walsworth in the finale who would earn the victory after tossing a complete game and allowing a run on seven hits with seven strikeouts with no walks.

Fryrear, Garrison, and Dutton each picked up two hits, with Garrison turning in her first homer of the season.

Ore, Taylor, and Beard each added a hit.

Garrison led the way with three RBI, while Harlow and Fryrear each drove in one.

A Fryrear RBI single in the bottom of the third would put the Storm on the board and a batter later Garrison would connect on a three-run homer to left field and pish the lead to 4-0.

Harlow would tack on another run in the fourth on a sac fly that plated Dutton to make the final 5-0.
