PIEDMONT, Okla. – Southeastern combined for 26 hits over two games on its way to a doubleheader sweep of Northwestern Oklahoma State, taking game one 8-3 before winning the late game 6-3 on Thursday afternoon in Piedmont, Okla.
The wins lift the Savage Storm to 20-14 overall on the season and 12-7 in Great American Conference play with the final game of the series set for noon on Friday back in Piedmont, Okla.
In game one,
Sage Harlow put together three hits to lead the offense, while
Kady Fryrear,
Reese Taylor,
Sabetha Sands, and
Sammi Dutton each added a pair of hits.
Gracie Ore,
Ananda Garrison,
Bailey Beard,
Kennedy Morgan, and
Kamryn Rackley each added a hit.
The Storm would tally 16 hits overall on the contest.
Ore would plate a pair of RBI to lead SE, with Harlow, Fryrear, Garrison, Sands, Rackley, and Dutton each adding an RBI.
Reese Taylor logged a complete-game victory, using just 72 pitches to span seven innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with 11 strikeouts.
SE would explode for six runs in the top of the second inning, with Rackley driving in the first on a single to left, followed two batters later by a two-run single from Ore for a 3-0 lead.
Harlow would drive in a run on a fielder's choice followed immediately by an RBI triple from Fryrear before Sands would finally single home Fryrear for a 6-0 lead.
A Solo homer in the bottom half of the inning would get NWOSU on the board, and the Rangers would tack on two more in the bottom of the third on a two-run single to cut the Storm lead to 6-3.
Garrison would drive home an insurance run in the sixth on an RBI single, and Dutton would plate another in the seventh to push the lead to 8-3 which would hold up as the final score.
Game two saw Fryrear, Beard, and Dutton each post a pair of hits to lead the offense, with Harlow, Taylor,
Channing Sarver, and
Kasey Simmons each adding a hit.
Sarver would homer in her lone hit, with Dutton collecting a pair of doubles.
Sarver's homer would bring in three runs, with Ore and Beard each driving in one.
Amberlyn Walsworth would scatter three runs, two earned, over seven complete innings in the win while striking out six.
NWOSU would take the lead first on an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning.
An Ore sac fly in the third would knot the game at 1-1.
Beard would give the Storm it first lead at 2-1 with an RBI single to right field in the fourth inning.
Dutton would come home on a misplayed infield fly in the fifth inning to stretch the SE lead to 3-1.
Sarver would double the score to 6-1 with a three-run homer in the top of the seventh and the Storm would survive a late rally as the Rangers put up two in the bottom of the seventh to make the final 6-3.
