Baseball Sweeps High-Scoring Doubleheader Over SNU

BETHANY, Okla. – Southeastern pounded out 34 hits and scored 32 runs over two games en route to a doubleheader sweep of Southern Nazarene, taking game one 23-21 in 11 innings before winning the finale 9-7 on Saturday in Bethany, Okla.
 
The wins lift the Savage Storm to 12-25 overall and 5-19 in Great American Conference play.
 
Game one of the score-fest would last just over four hours with he seven-inning finale itself going just over three.
 
In game one, Nick Hill turned in a career-best outing, finishing the contest 5-for-7 and tying a school record with three homers while finishing with six RBI.
 
Reid Rice and Cam Wheeler each added three hits, with Wheeler homering twice and driving in three runs, while Rice homered once and finished with five RBI.
 
Wesley Mitchell, Antonio Crews, and Cameron Cromer each had a pair of hits, while Brady Evans, John David Muse, and Dylan Herd each added a hit.
 
Evans and Mitchell would each homer, while Evans finished with four RBI and Mitchell drove in two.
 
Austin Thorp and Cromer would each tack on an RBI as well.
 
Dylan Turner got the start and took a no decision after tossing 2.2 innings and allowing four runs on five hits with three strikeouts.
 
Hayden Alexander followed and allowed a run on a hit with four walks in 1,2 innings before handing off to Charlie Deeds who was tagged for five runs on four hits in 1.2 innings.
 
Coby Langford would toss two-thirds of an inning and allowed four runs on two hits before Michael Minaya took over and allowed four runs on four hits with two strikeouts in an inning of work.
 
Brody Logsdon would come on to toss the final 3.1 innings and record the victory, allowing three unearned runs on six hits.
 
SE blew up in the top of the second inning, getting on the bord first on a Mitchell RBI double.
 
Later in the inning Eans would draw a bases-loaded walk to drive in a run with Thorp doing the same a batter later to take a 3-0 lead.
 
Rice would drive in two on an RBI single followed by a three-run Hill homer to stretch the lead to 8-0.
 
Mitchell would connect on a solo homer in his second at bat of the inning to make the score 9-0.
 
SE would add on in the third with Antonio Crews scoring on an error followed by a Hill RBI single to push the Storm lead to 11-0.
 
SNU would get on the board in the bottom half of the third, scoring on three-straight at bats to close the Southeastern advantage to 11-4.
 
In the fifth, Rice would hit a solo homer and Wheeler would connect on a two-run shot to push the Savage Storm edge to 14-4, but SNU would get one back in the bottom half to make the score 14-5.
 
Evans would draw a bases loaded walk to drive in a run and Rice would drive in two more on a two-run single to push the Southeastern lead to 17-5 midway through six innings.
 
The Crimson Storm would pick up three runs int the bottom of the sixth, narrowing the SE edge to 17-8 through six innings.
 
SNU would close the gap considerably in the bottom of the seventh, scoring seven runs to cut SE's lead to 17-15 heading to the eighth inning.
 
The Crimson Storm would put up three more runs in the bottom fo the eighth, taking an 18-17 lead heading to the ninth.
 
Hill would homer for the second time in the top half of the ninth to knot the game at 18-18.
 
Hill and Wheeler would lead off the 11th with back-to-back homers, and Cromer would double in a run before Evans connected on a two-run homer to stretch the Southeastern lead to 23-18.
 
SNU would get a run back on an SE error in the bottom of the 11th, followed by a two-run single to close the gap to 23-21, but Southeastern would finally secure the final out to preserve the 23-21 final score.
 
In the series finale, Mitchell turned in a three-hit outing, while Cromer, Hill, Muse, and Crews would add two-hits each.
 
Evans, Rice, and Wheeler each added a hit as well.
 
Rice and Crews would each homer, while Hill and Crews each turned in three RBI, while Rice, Mitchell, and Muse drove in one apiece.
 
Jackson Sioson got the start and collected the win after allowing seven runs on 13 hits with five strikeouts over five innings.
 
Jared Barta would come on to earn the save, allowing a hit while striking out two over the final two innings.
 
Hill would open scoring in game two with an RBI single in the top of the first followed by a Mitchell RBI single later in the inning to mount a 2-0 lead.
 
SNU would get one of those runs back in the bottom of the first to close the score to 2-1.
 
Hill would drive in two more runs in the top of the second inning, and the Crimson Storm would answer with two runs to close the SE lead to 4-3.
 
Crews would connect on a three-run homer in the third inning to push the lead to 7-3.
 
Rice would lead off the fourth inning with a solo shot and Muse would double home Wheeler later in the inning to extend the advantage to 9-3.
 
SNU would homer in the bottom half of the fourth to make the score 9-4 and would close the gap further with a three-run homer in the sixth inning, making the score 9-7 but Barta would retire six of the seven batters he faced over the final two innings to secure the win and earn the save.
