Men's Basketball Meets St. Mary’s in First Road Test

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern hits the road for the first time this season on Thursday, Nov. 19, when it travels to the Lone Star State to take on St. Mary's. Tip-off between the Savage Storm and the Rattlers is set for 7:30 p.m.
 
SERIES NOTES
  • Thursday's contest between the Storm and Rattlers will be the second all-time meeting, with SE leading 1-0. The last time the two sides played was during the 2018-19 season, when the blue and gold made the trek to San Antonio and won 89-80.
 
STORM REPORT
Southeastern (0-2, 0-0 GAC) opened the season hosting the GAC/NSIC Conference Challenge and faced Minot State and Minnesota-Duluth from the Northern Sun. Against MSU, SE led for most of the game, but a late push by the Beavers proved the difference maker, as the blue and gold fell 78-76. UMD jumped on the Storm early in the second contest of the challenge and defeated SE 84-61.
 
Over the two games, the Storm were led in scoring by Santiago Camacho Gomez and Ethan Wilkerson, who averaged 13.0 points per game. Gomez paced all scorers against Minot State with 15 points and had 11 versus UMD while shooting 52.9 percent from the field with four triples. Wilkerson was also efficient shooting the ball, converting 50.0 percent from the floor with 11 field goals made for 26 points.
 
In addition to his offensive efforts, Wilkerson led the blue and gold at the glass against Minot State and Minnesota-Duluth with 5.5 rebounds per game. The Storm finished the weekend with 73 total rebounds, which sees them averaging 36.5 boards per game to start the year. Gomez and Chandler Dickinson also join Wilkerson (11) in double-figure rebounds with ten each.
 
Through the first two games of the season, Southeastern is averaging 68.5 points per game while shooting 41.7 percent from the field and just 25.9 percent at the three-point line. The blue and gold are also converting 56.4 percent from the foul line with 22 makes on 39 trips, and are averaging 11 free throws per game.
 
SCOUTING ST. MARY'S
St. Mary's picked up two wins in its season openers at the South Central Regional Crossover with a 78-53 victory over Regis and a 68-62 win over Colorado-Mines. The Rattlers were picked second in the Lone Star Conference Preseason Poll ahead of the start of the season after going 20-11 last year.
 
Leading StMU in scoring is the LSC Preseason Player of the Year, Damani Claxton, with 16.5 points per game. Claxton scored 20 in the season opener against Regis for the Rattlers and followed with 13 points in the win over Colorado-Mines. The senior guard is one of three players averaging double-digit points per game early in the season, with Eddie McPhee seeing 13.5, while Wayne Wiggins is averaging 10.0 per game.
