SE Defense Locks Down in Win at SWOSU

Box Score WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southeastern's defense held Southwestern Oklahoma State to a 23.2 percent shooting effort overall on its way to a 53-44 road victory over the Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon in Weatherford, Okla.
 
The win lifts the Savage Storm to 17-7 overall on the season and 14-4 in Great American Conference play.
 
Kenzli Warden led all scorers with 17 points, hitting 8-of-15 from the field.
 
She was joined in double-digits by Abbie Barr who finished with 11 points, hitting two of the teams three made threes.
 
Stevie Stinchcomb and Akiera Hawk each added seven points, while Caitlin Kobiske chipped in six.
 
Stinchcomb also turned in a game-best three assists and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
 
Kobiske, Warden, and Barr each hauled in six rebounds.
 
After the team's combined for a 2:09 scoring drought to open the game, Lindley gave the Storm the game's first points on a layup and a Warden bucket a possession later out SE in front 4-0.
 
Southeastern pushed its lead out to 7-2 after a Barr three, but the Bulldogs scored seven of the next nine points and the teams went to the first quarter break tied at 9-9.
 
The Storm opened the second quarter with the first seven points on its way to an 11-2 run, taking a 20-11 lead on a Hawk layup with 4:02 remaining in the second.
 
SWOSU answered with a three, but SE scored the final four points of the half to take a 24-14 lead at the half.
 
The Storm pushed its lead to 12 points early in the third quarter on a Warden bucket, but the Bulldogs answered with nine-straight points to trim the Southeastern advantage to 28-25 with 7:03 to play in the third.
 
SWOSU closed the Storm edge to just one point, but the Storm answered with six-straight points before taking a 36-33 lead into the fourth quarter.
 
The Bulldogs tied the score to open the final frame and would tie it once more with 5:08 remaining.
 
Lindley would answer the second time and the Storm would close the final five minutes by outscoring SWOSU 11-2 to walk away with the 53-44 win.
