Dickinson Career-High Night Helps Lift SE past Arkansas Tech

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Southeastern Oklahoma State holds off Arkansas Tech on the road with the help of a career-high 22 points from Chandler Dickinson to defeat the Wonder Boys 68-49.

The Savage Storm (10-15, 8-11) caused havoc for ATU in the first half, forcing 10 turnovers, and the Wonder Boys finished the game with 18 giveaways. SE shot 37.9 percent (25-66) from the field for the game and was 10-27 from beyond the arc for a 37.0 clip.

Dickinson and Landon Condiff combined for 42 of the team's 68 points, with Dickinson leading the way with 22. Condiff recorded 20 points with a team-high five three-pointers, and Robert Briley tallied a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Santiago Camacho Gomez helped pull the strings on offense, dishing out six assists and had five points and a game-high five steals.

It was a low-scoring opening five minutes between Southeastern and Arkansas Tech, as SE led 5-2 at the first media break. After the timeout, points began to fall for both sides, with the Storm and Wonder Boys trading baskets over the next three minutes. Southeastern soon took advantage of another cold spell from ATU, extending its lead to 17-9 through three consecutive baskets and later made it a 15-point game on an 8-0 run.

The pace picked up in the final four minutes as SE and Arkansas traded blows from beyond the arc. The Storm saw Dickinson, Condiff and Camacho Gomez all drain three-pointers during this stretch to keep the SE advantage at 15 points, 34-19. Southeastern closed out the scoring of the opening half to hold a 36-21 lead at the break. The SE defense made things difficult for ATU in the first period, forcing 10 turnovers to eight made field goals.

Out of the break, the Storm took its largest lead of the game at the 18:18 mark with three-pointers by Condiff and Tyler Long to push ahead 44-24. However, after a sluggish first half, the Wonder Boys began to find their rhythm and built an 8-0 burst to cut into the SE lead. Moments later, Arkansas Tech rattled off another burst of points, this time six straight, to make it a two-possession game, 50-44.

With the pressure from ATU, SE responded with a 7-0 run to break things back open and extend its lead back to double figures. Southeastern kept its foot on the gas through Conidff, who knocked down two more triples in the last five minutes. Dickinson also saw his final three-pointer in the last three minutes to cap off a career night and secure a 68-49 win.

Southeastern (10-15, 8-11) wraps up its final Arkansas road trip with Harding on Sunday, Feb. 23, at 3 p.m. in the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.
