BETHANY, Okla. – Game one of Southeastern Oklahoma State's three-game GAC series in Bethany, Okla. with Southern Nazarene goes to the Crimson Storm 5-3.
SE was led by
Sage Harlow at the plate, with two hits and run scored, while the team finished with seven total knocks. SNU racked up 11 hits, with seven coming in the first two innings, where they did most of its damage, including a five-hit first inning.
India McMurray batted in two of the Storm's three runs with her only hit, and
Sabetha Sands and
Serenity Oden would each score a run.
Starting pitcher
Emily Simmons fell to 4-4 on the year in the circle after allowing four runs on four hits.
Trinity Oden came in for relief at the top of the first and went 6.0 frames with one run allowed on seven hits and struck out five batters.
An action-packed first inning saw the two sides combine for six runs, with SNU holding the edge at 4-2. Southeastern led off the frame with three straight singles, and on the fourth at-bat of the inning, McMurray ripped a single to center field to plate two runs. In the bottom half of the inning, SNU got the bats rolling with five hits to score four runs to lead 4-2.
Southern Nazarene added to its lead in the bottom of the second, scoring one run, and from there, both sides went scoreless in the third and fourth frames.
The Storm threatened to break things open in the top of the fifth as they loaded the bases with two outs. SE brought one run home on a single to center field by
Jazzy Rios, but a throw out at second base for the final out and limit the Savage Storm to just the one run, 5-3.
Southeastern was held to one hit in the final two innings, while Southern Nazarene went scoreless in the fifth and sixth innings but held its lead for the win, 5-3. SE (7-10, 0-4) will look to even the series in game one of Saturday's doubleheader tomorrow, starting at noon.
