ALVA, Okla. – Southeastern Oklahoma State went to overtime for the second time this season against Northwestern Oklahoma State, and the Rangers again found a way to win late, 101-99. SE ends the season 10-18 overall and 8-14 in Great American Conference play.
Both the Savage Storm and Rangers finished the game shooting 40.7 percent from deep, and each had 11 triples. SE shot 45.2 percent (33-73) from the floor and went 22-of-26 at the foul line.
Robert Briley led six players in double-digit points with 22 and added a career-high 17 rebounds to his totals.
Jalen Williams notched a career-high 15 points, while
Landon Condiff added 19 on 5-14 shooting from beyond the arc. Both
Chandler Dickinson and
DJ Dill had 14 points, and
Santiago Camacho Gomez tallied 11 and a team-high five assists.
Back-to-back three points by Condiff gave SE the early lead, but the Rangers quickly responded with a 14-2 run over the next three and a half minutes to gain the advantage 16-8. Just like NWOSU, Southeastern replied with a burst of points, building a 13-0 run capped off by a three-pointer by Dickinson to flip the edge back in favor of the Storm 21-16.
Again, the lead switched back to the host, but five straight points from Briley tied the game 26-all at the 7:24 mark. From there, both teams went point for point, as Dill kept the score locked with two makes at the foul line, 36-36. SE and NWOSU traded 4-0 runs in the last two minutes, and a second three-pointer from Dickinson tied the game 43-43 heading into halftime.
An early triple from Condiff sparked a 9-2 run for the Storm to start the second half and take the lead 52-45. Another three-pointer by Condiff and five straight points off the hand of Briley stretched the Storm's lead to 60-51, which soon grew to 67-54 after a Dickinson triple. However, a run of points from NWOSU quickly closed the gap to four after a 7-0 burst, 70-66.
The Rangers continued to battle and close down on the Storm and eventually brought it to a one-point game with 5:46 remaining, 76-75. Another four points from Briley gave Southeastern some breathing room, and layups by Camacho Gomez and Williams kept the Storm ahead by four, 84-80. However, with nine seconds remaining, a three-pointer by the Rangers tied the score 88-all, sending it to overtime.
The two sides were back and forth to start the final five minutes, with the Rangers ahead by two, 95-93. SE soon took the lead on a three-point play by Dill and a triple by Dickinson with three seconds left pushed the Storm ahead 99-95. Again, the Rangers found a way late in the game and made back-to-back triples in the last two seconds to win the game.
