SE Baseball Falls in Series Opener

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern fell behind early and was never able to claw out of the hole as it dropped the series opener versus Southern Arkansas 16-0 on Thursday afternoon at Mike Metheny Field.
 
The loss drops the Savage Storm to 16-27 overall and 12-16 in Great American conference play with the final two games of the series slated for a noon doubleheader on Friday preceded by Senior Day recognition for 13 SE seniors.
 
Southeastern's offense scattered five hits across five hitters, with Brady Evans, Chase Keeton, Nick Mueller, Alex Showalter, and Ryan Kirk each logging a hit.
 
Kirk supplied a double and a sacrifice hit, while the Storm stranded six runners over seven innings.
 
Michael White got the start and tossed two innings in taking the loss, allowing seven runs on five hits with three strikeouts.
 
Ryan Rauss followed with two runs on three hits in an inning.
 
Gabe Massey allowed three runs, two earned, on one hit in one-third of an inning before Brock Zimmer cam on and tossed two innings and allowed four runs on four hits.
 
Corbin Lingo finished the game with the team's most effective outing, giving up no runs on one hit in 1.2 innings of work.
 
SAU put a run on the board in the top of the first with a solo homer and followed with five runs in the second, including a grand slam to take a 7-0 lead.
 
The deficit stretched to 9-0 with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning.
 
The Muleriders added three more runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to push its lead to 13-0.
 
Three more runs in the top of the sixth made the score 16-0 after six innings which would hold up as the final in seven innings.
