WEATHERFORD, Okla. – In the first of three games in Weatherford, Southeastern takes the series opener over Southwestern Oklahoma State 12-3 in five innings. SE improves to 20-20 on the year and 11-10 in the GAC.
Â
The Savage Storm outhit the Bulldogs 15-to-4, led by five players, with a multi-hit game, including a 3-for-4 day at the plate from
Sage Harlow, who paced the team with three RBIs. All two of
Iliana Olivares's hits went for doubles, while she and
Jazzy Rios each recorded two RBIs, and Rios would finish the game 2-2 at the plate.
Â
Emily Simmons started the game for SE in the circle and went 2.2 innings with three runs allowed on four hits.
Alyson Malone went the final 2.1 frames and gave up zero runs or hits to earn her third win and move to 3-4.
Â
After both sides posted a scoreless first frame, Southeastern soon broke things open in the second to grab a 4-0 lead. The Storm took advantage of three SWOSU errors and a hit-by-pitch to scratch in the first two runs, and Harlow brought in another pair of scores later in the inning with a two-run double.
Â
In the third, SE recorded another crooked number, adding two more runs on three hits to extend the gap to 6-0.
Laci Larsen stood on second with two outs after hitting a single through the left side, and on the fourth at-bat of the frame,
Susan Edwards knocked an RBI single to center field to bring her home. On the next at-bat,
Lorryn Johnson ripped a double to left field to score Edwards and make it 6-0.
Â
However, the Bulldogs were quick to counter, scoring three runs in their half of the third to cut the deficit in half, 6-3. Southeastern posted a third straight inning with runs in the fourth, as the blue and gold went ahead 8-3 with a sacrifice fly by Larsen and an RBI single from Rios.
Â
The Storm continued their hot day at the plate in the fifth, exploding for another four runs to grow their advantage to 12-3. Southeastern got the frame started with back-to-back hits, and for the third time this game, Harlow got a hit, this time an RBI single to scratch the first score of the frame. Olivares stepped up to the plate on the next at-bat and delivered a bases-clearing double to score two more runs before Rios got her second hit of the contest to plate Olivares for the final run.
Â
Southeastern (20-20, 11-10 GAC) concludes its series at SWOSU tomorrow, starting at noon, as the Storm looks to clinch the series over the Bulldogs.
