ADA, Okla. – The Southeastern men's basketball program falls to East Central in the Kerr Activity Center on Thursday evening, 84-64.
Santiago Camacho Gomez led the scoring for the Savage Storm with 12 points and was joined in double-figure points by
Deondre Dunn and
Tyler Long with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Camacho Gomez also paced the team at the glass with seven of the team's 24 rebounds, while
Jamal Drewery passed around three assists.
Southeastern (4-13, 3-8 GAC) wraps up its four-game road trip at Northwestern Oklahoma State on Monday, Jan. 26, at 7:30 p.m.
Long had the hot hand early for the blue and gold, opening the scoring with a three-pointer and adding another basket later to lead 5-4. SE continued to let it fly from deep, with Dickinson and Camacho Gomez each knocking down triples. However, a flurry from the Tigers saw them grab a 21-11 edge on an 8-0 run. Southeastern answered with a 7-0 burst capped off by a Dunn three-pointer to trim the gap to 24-21.
East Central once again had a reply, using a 15-2 run to stretch its lead back double-figures with 2:51 remaining in the half, 43-28. SE and ECU matched each other in the final minutes of the half, with the Tigers leading 49-34 at the break. Long provided two of the final four points for the blue and gold in the half to finish with 10 in the first 20 minutes.
Southeastern controlled the opening minutes of the second half, allowing them to close the gap to ECU after five points from Camacho Gomez and three more from Dunn, 51-42. ECU would soon pick up the pace again and put its foot on the gas to jump back ahead 61-42. Two of the next three baskets for the Storm came from beyond the arc with back-to-back triples from Drewery and
Augusto Toledo, but the hosts continued to score in bunches, 72-50.
The Storm fired in two more triples from Toledo and Dunn, and they were followed by another trey by
Ethan Scott. However, during this stretch, ECU continued to add to its lead and would control the final minutes of the game.
