SE Baseball Takes Series Opener 7-4 Over Tigers

DURANT, Okla. – Isaac Villa and JJ Bush each logged three hits as Southeastern opened conference play with a 7-4 win over Ouachita Baptist on Thursday afternoon in the first game of a three-game series at Mike Metheny Field.
 
The win evens the record at 3-3 on the year and moves the Savage Storm to 1-0 to open Great American Conference play with the final two games slated for a noon doubleheader on Friday.
 
Villa finished the day 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored, while Bush posted a 3-for-5 outing with three RBI.
 
Bush turned all three of his hits into doubles, while Villa collected a triple among his three.
 
Hayden Carpenter homered for his one hit of the day, with Jacob Ambriz adding a hit and an RBI, while Jax Heid and Alex Showalter each tallied a hit.
 
Dylan Hill collected his first win of the season, moving to 1-1 on the year after tossing five innings and scattering three runs on six hits with three strikeouts.
 
Cody Pfeffer followed and logged the first save of the season for SE, allowing a run on two hits with two strikeouts in four innings of work.
 
The Storm wasted little time a Bush's first double plated Villa and Ryan Kirk would score on an Ambriz groundout to open a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
 
OBU answered with a run in the top of the third on a sac fly and briefly took a 3-2 lead with a pair of runs on RBI hits in the top of fourth.
 
Carpenter's home run tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom half of the inning and in the bottom of the fifth Bush collected another RBI double, scoring Villa to take a 4-3 lead.
 
Villa tripled home a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth innings and would once again score on another Bush double later in the inning to stretch the lead to 7-4 which would hold up as the final score.
