Southeastern Takes Series Opener at HSU

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Jax Heid drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth and Cody Pfeffer tossed five innings in relief to earn the win as Southeastern took the series opener at Henderson State 6-5 on Friday night in Arkadelphia, Ark.
 
The Savage Storm improve to 6-5 overall and move to 3-1 in Great American Conference play with the final two games of the series set for a noon d0oubleheader on Saturday.
 
Isaac Villa, Ryan Kirk, and Austin Parker each logged a pair of hits, while Carter Olson and Jacob Ambriz each added one.
 
Olson homered with a pair of RBI, while Villa turned in a pair of doubles.
 
Kirk, Ambriz, and Heid each drove in a run.
 
Dylan Hill got the start on the mound and tossed four innings in a no decision, allowing four runs on nine hits with three strikeouts.
 
Cody Pfeffer came on to record the win as he tossed five innings and allowed a run on four hits while striking out six.
 
HSU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a sac fly and a two-run double.
 
The Storm struck back in the top of the fourth as Olson connected on a two-run homer to deep center field, closing the gap to 3-2.
 
The Reddies tacked on a run in the bottom of the fifth, but SE answered as Bush scored on a wild pitch on an Ambriz walk to make the score 4-3 midway through six.
 
The Storm evened the game at 4-4 when Villa scored on an error in the top of the seventh, but SE left the bases loaded to end the inning without taking the lead.
 
The Reddies connected on a solo homer in the bottom half of the inning to regain the lead.
 
It would not last long though as Kirk singled home Villa in the top of the eighth to even the score again, this time at 5-5.
 
Heid singled home Austin Parker in the top of the ninth to take a 6-5 lead, and Pfeffer would strikeout out two of the four batters he faced in the bottom half of the ninth to hang on for the win.
