Four Homers, Hill Gem Lift SE to Win in Opener

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern scored five runs on four homers as it opened its weekend series against Arkansas Tech with a 5-1 win on Friday afternoon at Mike Metheny Field.
 
The win lifts the Savage Storm to 14-8 overall on the season and 9-4 in Great American Conference play with he final two games of the series slated for a noon doubleheader on Saturday.
 
Dylan Hill got the start and picked up the win after tossing seven innings and allowing a run on seven hits with two strikeouts.
 
Cody Pfeffer closed out the contest with two innings of work, returning all six batters he faced, including three strikeouts.
 
Isaac Villa finished the game with two hits, one of them a solo homer.
 
Ryan Kirk, JJ Bush, Austin Parker, Hayden Carpenter, and Logan Rose each logged a hit, with Bush, Parker, and Carpenter each joining Villa with homers.
 
All homers in the game were solo shots with the exception of Parker's who plated Carter Olson. 
 
Parker broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth, blasting a ball into the parking lot beyond the right field wall, plating Olson in the process for a 2-0 lead.
 
An inning later Villa connected on an opposite field homer, just clearing the right field wall and extending the Storm lead to 3-0 through five innings.
 
Carpenter tacked on a run with a one-out, solo shot to left in the bottom of the sixth, stretching the lead to 4-0.
 
ATU picked up a run on a solo homer in the top of the seventh, trimming the Storm lead to 4-1 and loading the bases before Hill coaxed a groundout to first to end the threat.
 
Bush would add a solo homer of his own in the bottom of the seventh inning, pushing the SE lead to 5-1 through seven complete.
 
Pfeffer retired the final six Wonder Boy batters in order to leave the final score at 5-1.
