Storm Pitching Shuts Down Roos in Twinbill Sweep

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern pitchers combined to allow just two runs over 14 total innings as the Savage Storm swept a Tuesday doubleheader over Austin College, taking game one 6-2 before winning the nightcap 8-0 at Mike Metheny Field.
 
The wins lift SE to 17-9 overall on the season heading into a three-game series versus Harding March 20-21 in Searcy, Ark.
 
Ryan Kirk logged a pair of hits, a homer and a double, driving in two runs.
 
Isaac Villa, Carter Olson, Austin Parker, and Easton Ford each picked up a hit.
 
Villa homered and Olson doubled, while Villa, Parker, and Jax Heid finished with an RBI each.
 
Colton Clawson got the start and scattered three hits over three innings with two strikeouts in a no decision.
 
Marcus Mott followed with 1.1 innings in relief to pick up the win, allowing a run on two hits.
 
Brayden Phelps recorded two-thirds of an inning before handing off to Austin Hillebrandt who logged his first save of the year after tossing two innings and allowing an unearned run on a hit.
 
Southeastern put a pair of runs up in the bottom of the first inning with Parker singling home Villa followed by Olson coming home when Ford reached on an error, taking a 2-0 lead after one inning.
 
Kirk extended the lead in the fourth with an RBI double that scored Ambriz, pushing the lead to 3-0 through four innings.
 
The Roos got on the board by loading the bases and drawing a bases-loaded walk, closing the gap to 3-1 before Phelps got out of trouble, leaving the score at 3-1.
 
The Storm tacked on a run in the bottom of the fifth as Parker reached on an error, moved to second on a balk and third on a wild pitch before scoring on an RBI fielder's choice off the bat of Heid, pushing the lead to 4-1.
 
Villa and Kirk added back-to-back solo homers in the bottom of the sixth to push the lead to 6-1.
 
AC picked up a run in the top of the seventh to make the final 6-2.
 
In game two, Payton Poole homered with a pair of RBI, while Kirk, Hayden Carpenter, Joseph Griswold, and Caiden Hubbard each doubled.
 
Tyler Payton added a hit and drove in a run, while Carpenter added an RBI as well.
 
Four Storm pitchers combined on a shutout with Juan Berrios getting the start and tossing three innings with one hit and five strikeouts.
 
Ryan Rauss picked up the win with two innings of work in relief with two strikeouts and one hit allowed.
 
Brayden Tambone followed, allowing two hits in an inning before Estevan Fonseca finished the contest with an inning or work and two strikeouts.
 
SE put up a run in the first and two more in the second without recording a hit.
 
In the third, the Storm added a run on an error and tacked on two more when Poole connected on a homer to right field, pushing the lead to 6-0 after three innings.
 
Kirk came home on a wild pitch in the fourth and Payton drove in a run on an RBI single in the fifth to push the lead to 8-0 which would hold up as the final.
