ALVA, Okla. – Southeastern falls on the road at Northwestern Oklahoma State 6-3 in the series opener. The Savage Storm (10-13, 4-3 GAC) will look to even the series tomorrow in game one of the doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
Â
Southeastern scattered six hits to score three runs, led by
Susan Edwards with two hits and a run scored.
Alyson Malone started the series opener and went 2.1 innings, allowing three runs on four hits, and fell to 4-2 on the season.
Emily Simmons and
Lindsey Dubberly combined for the final 3.2 frames, and Simmons would tally two punchouts.
Â
The Storm opened the scoring in the first to take a 2-0 lead on one hit, as Olivares blasted a two-run home run on the third at-bat of the game. While SE built a lead in the top of the first, starting pitcher Malone went to work in the circle and posted two scoreless frames.
Â
However, the Rangers soon got their bats going in the third, scoring three runs to lead 3-2. The SE bats soon cooled off after the first inning, allowing Northwestern to add to its lead in the bottom of the fifth, extending its advantage to 6-2.
Â
After going scoreless in the sixth, SE got the seventh started with a single by Edwards, who quickly stole second to put a runner in scoring position with one out. A groundout moved Edwards to third, and a sacrifice hit by
Tristan Hopkins brought in Edwards to make it 6-3. The Storm's rally would end here, as NWOSU worked the final out of the game.
