ADA, Okla. – Following weather delays and schedule reshuffling, Southeastern and East Central got game one of the series going under the lights, and the Tigers would edge the Storm out in a low-scoring battle, 2-1.
Â
SE (19-26, 11-16 GAC) is scheduled to play a doubleheader tomorrow, Saturday, April 24, with times set to be announced.
Â
The Savage Storm recorded seven hits, paced by
Iliana Olivares with two hits, while
Tally Rowland notched a hit and an RBI.
McKenna Simmons tallied the lone extra-base hit of the game, with a double in the third.
Emily Simmons tossed a complete game, totaling seven strikeouts, and allowing two runs on four hits.
Â
SE and ECU were locked in a scoreless deadlock through two innings, as both starting pitchers limited opposing bats early. Things would soon change during the top of the third, with Storm chaining together three straight hits, including a double by
McKenna Simmons to load the bases. The blue and gold eventually scratched in the first run of the game to lead 1-0 on a sacrifice flyout by T. Rowland.
Â
The Tigers were quick to punch back in the bottom half of the third, bringing home two runs to take a 2-1 advantage. Following the flurry of scores in the third, the two sides posted back-to-back zeros in the fourth and fifth, with ECU holding its one-run lead, 2-1.
Â
Southeastern threatened to score the tying run in the top of the sixth, as the Storm loaded the bases, behind two walks and a single by
Tristan Hopkins. However, the Tigers navigated the traffic and held the blue and gold scoreless, stranding all three runners.
Â
Into the seventh, SE got its leadoff batter on safely to begin the top half of the frame after
Susan Edwards was hit by a pitch. The sophomore outfielder was soon standing on second following a groundout, but ECU closed the door on the Storm's rally, getting the final out on a strikeout.
