Storm Pile Up Runs in Win over SAU, Fall in Final

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Southeastern's offense piled up 32 runs over two games, picking up a 21-19 win over Southern Arkansas to reach the final in its bracket, but saw its postseason run come to an end on Saturday night with a 17-11 loss to East Central in the Great American Conference Tournament.
 
Southeastern finishes year with a 30-21 record on the season.
 
For the third time this season Southeastern scored 21 runs in a game, doing so by setting a handful of records in the process.
 
SE and SAU combined for the most runs and total bases in a GAC Tournament game with the teams also combining for the most home runs in a game while SE had the most of any single team with seven.
 
Olson tied the SE record for home runs in a game with three as he posted a 3-for-4 outing with three homers and four RBI.
 
Austin Parker turned in a four-hit outing, including two home runs and five RBI.
 
JJ Bush and Ryan Kirk each added a home run and, while Logan Rose and Alex Showalter each doubled.
 
Jax Heid matched Parker with four hits while Rose finished with three, while Kirk chipped in two.
 
Bush, Showalter, and Isaac Villa each finished with one hit.
 
Parker plated five RBI, while Olson and Kirk drove in four each.
 
Bush added three RBI, while Showalter and Heid drove in two and Easton Ford plated one.
 
Daniel Collins got the start and tossed three innings and was tagged for four runs on five hits.
 
Juan Berrios was dinged for three runs, two earned, in one-third of an inning and Austin Hillebrandt followed with four runs, just two earned, in one-third.
 
Carson Abbott followed and picked up the win in relief with 2.1 innings of work, allowing four unearned runs on a hit.
 
Brock Zimmer allowed three runs, only one earned, in an inning of work and Marcus Mott followed, allowing a run without recording an out.
 
Brayden Tambone closed out the game, earning the save with two scoreless innings.
 
SAU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Olson's first homer cut that gap in half in the bottom half at 2-1.
 
SE took its first lead on a Kirk two-run homer in the bottom of the third and kicked off back-to-back-to-back home runs with Olson and Parker connecting on solo shots in succession, pushing the lead to 5-2.
 
Heid would end the scoring in the inning with a two-run single to left to extend the advantage to 7-2.
 
That lead was short-lived as the Muleriders scored nine runs in the top of the fourth, taking an 11-7 lead.
 
Parker singled home Villa in the bottom of the fourth to cut into the deficit at 11-8.
 
The Storm got out of the top of the fifth in order and got a three-run homer from Bush to tie the game in the bottom half before back-to-back home runs from Olson, a two-run shot, and Parker, a solo blast, regained the lead for the Storm at 14-11.
 
A four-run top of the sixth put SAU back in front 15-14, but the Storm again had an answer in the bottom half.
 
Retaking the lead on a two-run single by Kirk, followed by a two-run single by Parker for an 18-15 lead.
 
Later in the inning Ford drew a bases-loaded pinch-hit walk followed by a two-run double from Showalter for a 21-15 lead.
 
SAU picked up three runs in the seventh and another in the eighth to close the gap to 21-19, but that was where the scoring would end.
 
In the nightcap versus the Tigers, Bush led the way with three hits, including a home run, and three RBI.
 
Kirk, Olson, Parker, Rose, Tyler Payton, Alex Showalter, Heid and Villa each added a hit in the effort.
 
Olson and Rose each doubled, and Villa added three RBI.
 
Rose drove in two, while Parker and Payton added one each.
 
Estevan Fonseca got the start and logged two innings, allowing six runs on eight hits in a no decision.
 
Ryan Rauss followed and was tagged for three runs on a hit without recording an out, earning the loss.
 
Colton Clawson followed with two-third of an inning, allowing two runs on two hits.
 
Berrios made his second appearance of the day, tossing two innings and allowing four runs on three hits.
 
Tambone followed with his second appearance of the day, tossing 2.1 innings and allowing two runs on three hits.
 
Cody Pfeffer followed with a scoreless inning and Zimmer followed with one as well to close out the game.
 
ECU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Southeastern responded in a big way in the bottom half.
 
Parker drew a bases loaded walk to drive in a run followed by a two-run double by Rose and a sac fly by Payton to take a 4-2 lead.
 
Villa followed later in the inning with a two-run double and Bush drove in two a batter later with a single to mount an 8-2 lead.
 
The Tigers followed with a run in the second and eight in the third to regain the lead before adding another in the fourth and three in the fifth to take 15-8 lead.
 
The Storm finally got a run back in the sixth when Olson scored on a double play, but ECU picked up two more in the top of the eighth, extending the lead to 17-9.
 
Bush led off the eighth with a solo homer, closing the gap to 17-10.
 
Villa drove in a run on a sac fly in the bottom of the ninth, but that is where the Storm rally ended with the final score 17-11.
