TULSA, Okla. – Southeastern puts in a strong start at the NSU Women's Classic and is second with a score of 14-over 298.
Rogers State sits just ahead of the Savage Storm in first with a round-one score of 13-over 297, while the blue and gold hold a three-stroke advantage over third-place Oklahoma Baptist (+17). A pair of GAC schools round out the top five with Harding in fourth at 20-over 304 and Arkansas-Monticello in fifth at 22-over 306.
Four players in the SE lineup are in the top 10 of the player leaderboard through 18 holes of play.
Karen Kim and
Carley Button are tied for third, as they carded a 3-over 74 on the Par 71 course. Kim started her round with a 2-over 37 on the front nine, and would finish strong with back-to-back birdies on the back nine to shoot 1-over 36. Button also had a strong end to the round, shooting even par on the back nine to cap off day one.
Kaeli Drake and
Emma Thompson matched each other's score in the opening round, carding a 4-over 75, and are tied for tenth. Drake scattered three birdies on the front nine for a 3-over 38 and later shot 1-over 37 on the back nine, and Thompson also shot a 3-over 38 on the front half before following up with a 1-over 37 on the back nine.
Natalie Breaux followed just behind the pair with an 8-over 79 round one and is tied for 28
th individually. Breaux turned in her best play on the front nine, where she shot 3-over 38 with six pars. Breaux and the Storm will look to close the gap to the top in the final round tomorrow at the Par 71 Page Belcher Golf Course.
