Men's Rodeo Opens Season With a Win at Colby CC

COLBY, Kan. – Southeastern's men's team opened the 2026-27 season where they left off a season ago, taking home the top spot at the Colby CC Rodeo over the weekend while the women turned in a fourth-place finish at the event in Colby, Kan.
 
Southeastern will be back in the arena Oct. 8-10 at the Pratt CC Rodeo in Pratt, Kan.
 
Brady Irvine took home the top spot in the saddle bronc riding, taking the first round with a score of 81 before upping his game in the second round with a 90 to win the round and the average.
 
Waylon Buquoi took home the top spot in the bull riding after finishing second in the first round with a score of 77 and second again in the finals with a ride of 79 which moved him into the top spot in the average.
 
Maysun King split second place overall in the breakaway after opening the weekend with a run of 2.4 in the first round to split second place in the round. Her 2.2 in the finals would have the same result and keep her splitting second in the average.
 
Justin Ochs and his partner Cody Sand from Western Oklahoma State put together a second-place finish in the team roping, catching their first run in a time of 7.4 to split fifth.  The duo were second in the finals on a run of 6.6 to climb back to second in the average.
 
Tanner Drueke turned in a second place finish overall in the bareback riding event, finishing second in the first run with a score of 69 and adding another second place run in the finals with a score of 78.
 
Kash Martin was fifth in the event with a first-round run of 66 which was good for third before exiting his ride early in the finals to fall to fifth in the average.
 
Blake Carter was third in the average in the tie down roping, posting a first-round run of 10.3 to finish third in the round. He followed with another third-place finish in the finals with another 10.3.
 
Boe Maggie Calico posted a fourth-place finish in the barrel racing after clocking a 15.63 in the first round to finish fifth and following it up with a fourth-place time of 15.75 in the finals.
 
Lucas Peterson picked up a fifth-place finish in the steer wrestling, posting a 7.7 in the first go before closing the weekend with a 5.2 which was good for third in the round and moved him to fifth in the average.
