Luke Mattson begins his first season as the Graduate Assistant coach for the Southeastern Oklahoma men’s basketball program in 2024-25.
Mattson joins the Storm after spending a season as an assistant coach for the Northern Michigan men’s basketball program in 2023-24. While on staff, Mattson helped NMU to a GLIAC regular season title after a 22-11 season. The Wildcats would also earn a spot in the NCAA Midwest Regional Quarterfinals.
Before turning to collegiate coaching, Mattson coached the 14U and 16U Great Northern Elite AAU teams for three seasons. Among the players he helped coach was a 2023 MHSAA state champion from Munising in Trevor Nolan.
Mattson was also a four-year letter in college, playing two seasons with Bay Community College and another two with Finlandia University. While at Bay Community College, he won two titles and helped his team to a 39-20 record. In his last two years with Finlandia, Mattson played in 45 games for the Lions.
Mattson graduated from Bay Community College in 2020 and later earned his bachelor’s degree in Sports Management from Finlandia University in 2023.
