With over 40 years of military, teaching and corporate experience, Major General James E Chambers, USA (Ret.) joined Southeastern Oklahoma Sate University in 2016 as the Head Coach for the Golf program. His experience, education and practical knowledge of leadership have enabled his success in leading both young men and women in times of peace and war.

After retiring from the US Army in 2012, he worked in the corporate industry for four years and was the president and CEO of two major military industry companies. He formally retired from those positions in 2016. Â
Major General James Chambers, USA (Ret.) completed his military career of over 33 years of service at U.S. Central Command. He entered the service as a private in 1978, and was commissioned as an officer in 1979. He served two combat tours in Desert Storm/Desert Shield in Saudi Arabia, and OIF II in Iraq. He also conducted multiple missions to Afghanistan and the Central Asian States. During his General Officer years, he served as the Commanding General of Fort Lee, Virginia, and Fort Eustis, Virginia. He commanded the 13th Corps Support Command, Fort Hood, Texas, which included a year as commander of Balad Air Base in Iraq. He also served two tours in the Pentagon, Washington, DC and an assignment in the US Army Space Institute as the combat developer for GPS military receivers.
Chambers earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Durant, Oklahoma, and his Masters Degree in Logistics Management from the Florida Institute of Technology. After teaching and coaching high school for 3 years in Marietta, Oklahoma, he entered the US Army in 1978. He attended Officer Candidate School in 1979, receiving his commission as a second Lieutenant in Air Defense Artillery. Â
He is married to Elaine (formally Madoline Elaine Guthrie, Quinton, Ok) since 1974; she is an Eastern Oklahoma State University Graduate and also a Southeastern Oklahoma State University Graduate. Currently she is a Department of Defense Training Developer for the Defense Commissary Agency. Jim and Elaine have two sons, Chris and Kyle; and two grandchildren, 7-year-old Madoline, and 5-year-old Cooper.
