Dr. Jerome Morgan took over the Southeastern Oklahoma State Track & Field program 2023, starting a remarkable transformation built on competitive excellence, academic achievement, and a culture of accountability.

Under his leadership, Southeastern student-athletes have earned five Great American Conference individual and relay championships in the 400 meters, 400-meter hurdles, shot put, hammer throw, and 4x400-meter relay. The program has also produced three Great American Conference records in the shot put -Macayla Needham (15.28m), hammer throw -Macayla Needham (52.19m), and 400-meter hurdles -Madison Rowe (59.39s).

Coach Morgan would later go on to create history qualifying both student-athletes for the NCAA Division II National Championships the programs first in 2024 with Macayla Needham in the Shot Put event and again in 2026 with Madison Rowe in the 400m hurdles event. The program under his leadership has also achieved Eight NCAA provisional qualifying performances across the shot put, 400 meters, 400-meter hurdles, and 4x400-meter relay.

His athletes have consistently excelled at the conference level, earning 37 All-Great American Conference honors over the past three seasons, including 14 selections in 2024, 12 in 2025, and 11 in 2026. His athletes have also received two USTFCCCA All-Region honors, four Great American Conference Athlete of the Week awards, and the prestigious Great American Conference Elite Scholar Award. Academically, the program has produced 23 Academic All-Conference honorees, reflecting Coach Morgan’s commitment to developing successful student-athletes both on the track and in the classroom.

The team's culture has also been recognized with the Great American Conference Team Sportsmanship Award, highlighting the program's emphasis on character, integrity, and respect in competition.
 
Perhaps most notably, Coach Morgan has overseen one of the most significant record-book transformations in school history. During his tenure, Southeastern athletes have established 116 school records with 56 indoor and 60 outdoor demonstrating sustained program-wide improvement across multiple event disciplines. The program also celebrated a Southeastern Athlete of the Year in 2024, further underscoring the impact of his leadership.

Coach Morgan is experienced in coaching and developing student-athletes in the sprints, hurdles, relays, jumps, throws, and 800m events and has coached all the school record holders in these events since his first season with the program. His leadership philosophy centers on competitive excellence, academic success, personal accountability, and preparing student-athletes for success beyond collegiate athletics.

Coach Morgan made the move to Durant in 2023 after spending two seasons at Austin Peay State University, a division 1 program located in Clarksville, Tennessee, where he served as the Director of Operations for the Track and Field program and assistant coach working primarily with throwers.
 
Prior to his time with the Governors, Morgan spent three seasons (2018-21) as a volunteer assistant coach at Division II Cameron University where he worked with the Aggies' sprinters, jumpers, and throwers.
 
Before his time in Lawton, Okla., Morgan was a volunteer assistant at the junior college level, spending two seasons (2016-17) at Odessa College where he worked with the Wranglers' middle-distance runners.
 
From 2017-20, Morgan worked as a Chemical Biological Radiological and nuclear specialist for the United States Army at Fort Sill near Lawton, Okla.
 
Morgan began his coaching career as an assistant track and field coach at St. Andrews High School for Girls in Kingston, Jamaica, working specifically with jumpers and throwers. Prior to his coaching career, Morgan competed as a track athlete at G.C. Foster College of Physical Education and Sport in Spanish Town, Jamaica.
 
Morgan has earned a pair of degrees from the American Military University, receiving a bachelor's in sports management in 2020 and a master's in sports management with a concentration in Coaching Theory and Strategy in 2021.
 
He most recently earned a doctorate in healthcare administration from Virginia University–Lynchburg in 2023.
 
Morgan is also a Level 2 certified Sprints, Hurdles & Relays coach by the USA Track & Field Coaching Academy.
 
He and his wife Dasiana have four children, JaeDash, Valencia, RoJae and Cambria.
