Cherrie Wilmoth was named the Deputy Director of Athletics in 2020 and in her current role oversees key aspects of the athletics department including NCAA compliance efforts, financial aid and scholarship coordination, academic support, and internal operations and reporting.

Wilmoth began her career at SE in 1997, serving the first nine years as the Savage Storm volleyball coach and as an instructor in the Depertment of Physical Education, and in 2001 she would take on the role of Athletics Compliance Coordinator and Senior Woman Administrator.

As a coach, she was named the Lone Star Conference North Division Coach of the Year in 2001.

She assumed the position of Associate Athletics Director in 2008, after serving a year as the interim Director of Athletics for the 2007-08 seasons, resuming her compliance duties and serving in that capacity until her elevation to Deputy Director of Athletics in 2020.

Wilmoth represents the athletic department at the University, Conference, and National level.

In 2016, she was selected to serve on the NCAA Division II Management Council representing the Great American Conference. As a part of this council, she also served on the NCAA Division II Legislation Committee and was appointed Chair in 2018.

Wilmoth served on the NCAA DII Implementation Committee and the Enforcement and Infractions Taskforce and is currently serving on the NCAA DII Nominating Committee.

She enjoys working with coaches, faculty, and staff towards common goals in academics and athletics that enhance the experience of student-athletes in their journey striving for success, and in 2023, Wilmoth received the Staff Senate Award for Service to Students recognizing her exemplary service and commitment to the education of others.

Wilmoth earned a bachelor’s degree in 1995 and a master’s degree in 1996, both from Southeastern. She and her husband, John, have a daughter, Chelsie.
