Josie Barela joined the Southeastern Oklahoma State Sports Medicine Department in the summer of 2022, primarily working with women’s volleyball, men’s basketball and women’s cross country and track and field.

Barela earned her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training Education from New Mexico State University in 2013 and her Master of Physical Education & Coaching from the University of Arkansas at Monticello in 2018.  

Prior to joining the Savage Storm, Barela served as Assistant Athletic Trainer at University of Arkansas at Monticello, beginning as a Graduate Assistant while working on her master’s degree and eventually transitioning to the full-time assistant.
